Vienna 9/11 Ceremony Planned On 21st Anniversary Of Terrorist Attacks

VIENNA, VA — On the 21st anniversary of 9/11, Vienna will hold a remembrance ceremony Sunday.

All are invited to attend the ceremony at 9 a.m. Sunday at Freeman Store lawn (Town Green), 131 Church Street NE, Vienna. The ceremony will remember the victims, survivor and all those affected by the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. It will be attended by Vienna’s American Legion Post 180 and local leaders.

Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed in the suicide attacks carried out by 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group Al-Qaeda. Many of the victims were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, and additional victims died in the attack on the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the hijacked plane crash near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. There were 16 victims of the 9/11 attacks from Alexandria.

The ceremony will also honor those who risked their lives or gave up their lives to save others. First responders from Fairfax County and other Northern Virginia jurisdictions responded to the attack on the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
