Vienna Church Holds Iconic Easter Service At Lincoln Memorial

What started as a small church service 40 years ago became a large gathering as the sun comes up at the Lincoln Memorial.

VIENNA, VA—40 years ago, Capital Church of Vienna began its Easter Sunrise Service at the Lincoln Memorial as a small gathering. Today it's become a celebrated Easter tradition of the DC region drawing many locals and visitors alike.

The service will happen Sunday, April 1 at 6:30 a.m. at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Between stunning views of the historic landmark and the fact that attendees come from different parts of the country and word, it's no surprise the service has grown into one of the largest Easter sunrise services in America. The service is featured in Washingtonian's The Great Washington Bucket List.

The Easter Sunrise Service is an effort put together by its founding pastors Amos and Sue Dodge, the current lead pastors Travis and Tara Goodman and over 100 volunteer church members.
