Vienna Crime: Assault of Restaurant Employee, Harassment from Former Employer + More
The week in crime in the Town of Vienna, from the Town of Vienna Police Department weekly crime report.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from July 31, 2015 – August 06, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

INCIDENTS
Fraud 15-007495 200 Block Walnut Lane, NW November 8, 2013 12:00 p.m. A resident reported fraudulent charges made to her Macy’s account in 2013. The resident had notified Macy’s fraud department at the time of the incident and was under the impression that the matter had been resolved. She recently began receiving collection notices regarding the fraudulent charges and was advised by Macy’s she would need to file a police report.

This case is being investigated.
Arrest - Violation of a Protective Order 15-007373 Dogwood Street, SW Between July 24 at 2:27 p.m. and July 31 at 2:27 p.m. A resident reported receiving various text messages and emails from her ex-husband in violation of a protective order.
Lt. Taylor obtained a warrant for the ex-husband charging Violation of a Protective Order. On August 3 the warrant was served on the 56 year old man from Nalls Farm Way in Great Falls, VA.
Grand Larceny 15-007318 Vienna Community Center 120 Cherry Street, SE July 29 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A citizen reported his bicycle was taken after he had left it unsecured in the area near the gazebo.
Case Update:
The property in this case was recovered and an arrest made – see case 15-007408 below.
Destruction of Property 15-007452 Dominion Power Sub Station 405 Center Street, North Between July 30 at 5:00 p.m. and August 3 at 7:30 a.m. An employee found the chain link on two gates cut. The employee was unable to determine if anyone had entered the property or if anything was taken.
Assault 15-007353 Neighbor’s Restaurant 262 Cedar Lane, SE July 31 2:01 a.m. Police responded to the report of an assault that had occurred at the restaurant. An employee advised that approximately 30 minutes before he called the police, one of their known customers had become intoxicated and disorderly. The customer assaulted the employee, then left the restaurant.
Officers advised the employee of the process to obtain a warrant after he stated he did wish to pursue criminal charges against the customer.
Animal Case 15-007356 900 Block Ware Street, SW July 31 6:35 a.m. Police responded to the report of an injured deer. Officer Herrera located the deer in the bushes suffering with both front legs broken and determined it needed to be euthanized.
Animal Case – Cat Bite 15-007367 The Hope Center 140 Park Street, SE July 31 12:17 p.m. An employee advised a cat had bitten and scratched its owner while being transported to their facility for treatment. The cat was euthanized at the Hope Center for its illness. MPO Smith then transported the cat to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter for testing.
ACO Barker was advised of the case to follow up with Fairfax County as the owner resides in Burke.
Telephone Case 15-007376 600 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW July 31 1:02 p.m. A resident reported continuous harassment from his former employer. He advised that since he quit his previous job his former boss has been calling him and showing up at his home.
Sgt. Sheeran explained the warrant and protective order process to the resident should he decide to pursue charges against his former employer.
Suspicious Event 15-007374 300 Block Maple Avenue, West July 31 3:36 p.m. A citizen reported that she found a packet of medication attached to the door handle of her vehicle while it was parked at her place of employment. The citizen suspects her ex-boyfriend may have been responsible for the incident.
Officers attempted to process the medication package, but were unable to obtain any identifiable prints. The medication was turned over to the property officer for destruction.
The citizen was advised of the process to obtain a protective order against her ex-boyfriend.
Domestic Dispute 15-007381 Cedar Lane, SE July 31 8:30 p.m. A resident reported that his juvenile son was misbehaving at the dinner table. The resident tapped the son on his head which caused him to bump his lip on the table.
Child Protective Services will follow up on this case.
Suspicious Event 15-007387 200 Block Locust Street, SE July 31 9:30 p.m. A resident advised that one of her neighbors walked into her home to speak to her. The resident advised the neighbor to leave the property. She then contacted the police.
Police spoke to both the resident and her neighbor. The two parties advised each other in front of the police that they were trespassed from each other’s properties. They were both advised to contact the police if they had any further problems with each other.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 15-007388 Lawyers Road at Blair Court, NW July 31 10:32 p.m. Officer Reedy stopped a vehicle after observing the driver commit a series of traffic violations. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment.
After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 37 year old man from Manassas VA for Driving While Intoxicated.
He was then transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and was to be released on his signature once he was sober.
Trespassing 15-007392 Vienna Elementary School 128 Center Street, South July 31 11:00 p.m. Officers responded to the school for a report of juveniles trespassing on the roof. Four male juveniles were located and identified. Each of their parents / guardians were notified and responded to the school to take custody of their child.
Fairfax County School Security was notified and responded. There was no damage found on the roof. The officers verbally counselled each of the juveniles for trespassing and released them to the custody of their parents / guardians. School Security was referred to Juvenile Intake should they choose to seek petitions against the juveniles.
Arrest - Drunk In Public 15-007399 700 Block Center Street, South August 1 3:40 a.m. Officers encountered a man standing in the road in front of his house. The man showed signs of intoxication and was told to go inside his home or he would be arrested for Drunk In Public. The man complied and went back into his house.
A short time later, officers responded back to the area to assist rescue with a man lying in the roadway. Fairfax County Rescue personnel were already on scene tending to the man who was determined to be intoxicated, but not in need of medical treatment.
MPO Shaw arrested the 23 year old man from Center Street, South in Vienna for Drunk In Public. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.
Suspicious Event 15-007401 300 Lewis Street, NW August 1 8:42 a.m. A resident advised a man approached his adult son in their front yard and began arguing with him about their dog. When the resident heard the argument he confronted the unknown man who threatened to get his gun and shoot the resident’s dog.
The unknown man left the area prior to police arrival. The resident was advised to contact the police immediately if there are any further problems with the man.
Arrest – Traffic Offense 15-007405 500 Block Windover Avenue, NW August 1 10:37 a.m. After observing a traffic violation MPO Smith conducted a traffic stop. A DMV inquiry indicated the driver was operating his vehicle on a suspended license.
MPO Smith arrested the 52 year old man from Talahi Road, SE in Vienna on the charge of Driving While Suspended. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where an unsecured bond of $1500 was set.
Arrest – Possession of Stolen Property 15-007408 Spokes 224 Maple Avenue, East August 1 11:04 a.m. Officers responded to a complaint of a customer who was in possession of a stolen bicycle. An employee advised that two individuals brought in a bicycle for repair that he recognized as a bicycle that was stolen on July 29, 2015 (Case 15-007318). One of the individuals left when they realized the employee recognized the stolen property.
Officers located the second individual as he was leaving the store. Officer Tremont arrested the 19 year old man from Orrin Street, SE in Vienna and charged him with Possession of Stolen Property.
The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was held on a $2500 bond.
Trespassing 15-007416 Fresh Market 150 Branch Road, SE August 1 4:02 p.m. An employee reported a man in the store who had shoplifted from them in the past and had been asked not to return to the store.
The employee spoke to the man in the presence of officers, advising him that he was no longer permitted on the property. Officer Tremont explained to the man that if he returned he would be arrested for trespassing.
Open Door 15-007438 100 Block Kingsley Road, SW August 2 1:19 p.m. MPO Smith observed a vehicle parked in front of a vacant house. While checking the exterior of the house the officer found the garage door open and a broken window above the back door lock.
Officers searched the interior of the home, but found nothing to be disturbed.
Suspicious Event 15-007439 Bank of America 235 Maple Avenue, West August 2 2:01 p.m. Officer Tremont responded to a report of ATM that appeared to be open. The officer found a drawer on the ATM unlocked and slightly open; however, the cash in the ATM was not accessible. A service log indicated a service technician had been working on the ATM earlier that day.
The officer was able to secure the drawer. The bank security was notified of the incident.
Suspicious Event 15-007446 100 Block Tapawingo Road, SE August 2 8:45 p.m. A resident reported hearing suspicious noises in her basement.
Officers searched the exterior and interior of the residence, finding all doors and windows secure and nothing appeared to be disturbed.
Juvenile Case 15-007471 Park Terrace Court, SE August 3 between 8:00 a.m. and 11:37 p.m. A resident advised her juvenile daughter had not returned home. She was supposed to be home by 9:00 p.m., and had sent a message at 8:30 p.m. stating that she was on her way home.
Case Update:
On August 4 at 8:29 a.m. MPO Shaver responded to the residence to verify that the juvenile had returned home safely.
Found Property 15-007452 Southside Park 1317 Ross Drive, SW August 3 8:30 a.m. A Town employee found a debit card and two starter checks while cleaning out the trash containers at the park.
The property is being held at the Vienna Police Department to be released to the owner.
Suspicious Event 15-007459 Wolftrap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West August 3 2:12 p.m. Officers responded to the report of two men arguing, one of them had a knife.
The two men were staying in adjacent rooms. One of the men stated they had argued the previous night so he retrieved his knife from his vehicle for protection.
An employee agreed to move the patrons to opposite sides of the hotel.
Grand Larceny 15-007499 McDonalds 544 Maple Avenue, West August 4 3:51 p.m. A citizen reported his backpack, which contained his tablet notebook and an assortment of work tools, being stolen from his work vehicle. The backpack was left in the front seat of the unlocked vehicle for just a few minutes when the citizen realized it was missing.
This case is being investigated.
Animal Case 15-007513 500 Block Kingsley Road, SW August 5 10:04 a.m. A resident expressed concern for a cat that his tenant had left unattended for three days. Officer Tremont responded to the residence and observed that the cat appeared to be in good health.
The case has been forwarded to the Animal Control Officer for follow up.
Found Property 15-007520 Vienna Town Hall 127 Center Street, South August 5 12:55 p.m. A citizen dropped off a found wallet at Town Hall.
The wallet is being held at the Vienna Police Station until the owner can retrieve it.
Trespassing 15-007527 Chipotle 213 Maple Avenue, East August 5 2:26 Officers responded to the restaurant for a report of a possible fight. They located a man outside of the restaurant who was acting agitated and uncooperative. An employee and a citizen advised the man had been in the restaurant aggressively soliciting money from customers. The man became agitated when the employee asked him to leave the restaurant.
In the presence of the officers the man was advised by the employee not to return to the restaurant. The officers also advised the man that soliciting for money was not permitted within the Town. The man then left the area.
A short time later the officers responded to a report of the man soliciting for money in the area of Sunoco, 102 Maple Avenue, West. The man was located by the officers; however, they did not observe him commit any crime. He was again advised that he was not permitted to solicit money in the Town. He agreed to leave the area without further incident.
Animal Case 15-007529 Whole Foods 143 Maple Avenue, East August 5 between 2:55 p.m. and 3:05 p.m. A citizen reported a dog that had been left in a vehicle. Sgt. Sheeran located the vehicle and observed that the dog did not exhibit signs of being in distress. Sgt. Sheeran requested the store page the owner of the vehicle.
When the owner returned she advised the officer that she had forgotten that she had the dog with her in the vehicle. The officer counselled the owner, but did not charge her as the dog did not appear to be in distress.
Welfare Check 15-007536 Tapawingo Road and Nutley Street, SW August 5 9:13 p.m. Officers responded to the bus stop to check on the welfare of a man at the request of his relative.
The man appeared to be in good condition and reported he was waiting for a bus and was not in need of assistance.
Arrest – Warrant Service 15-007556 Park Street at Talahi Road, SE August 6 10:57 a.m. PFC Tracy observed a driver commit a traffic violation. Upon his interaction with the driver he found the driver did not have a valid license in Virginia. Further investigation indicated that Fairfax County Police had an active warrant for the driver, charging Felony Vehicle Theft.
PFC Tracy arrested the 39 year old man from Mapledale Avenue in Woodbrige, Virginia on the warrant charging him with Felony Vehicle Theft and on the charge of Driving Without a License. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was held on a $7500 secured bond.
Juvenile Case 00-7566 Park Terrace Court, SE August 6 5:38 p.m. A resident advised that her juvenile daughter became upset and left their residence without permission. The daughter was upset after being told by her mother that a petition had been obtained charging her with Violation of Probation.
This case is being investigated.
