Vienna Crime: Burglary of Microwave and HVAC, Shoplifting of Cold Medicine + More
The week in crime in the Town of Vienna, from the Town of Vienna Police Department weekly crime report.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from July 10, 2015 – July 16, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

INCIDENTS
Burglary 15-006735 500 Block Kibler Circle, SW Between June 11 at 12:00 a.m. and July 11 at 10:00 a.m. The owner of a home that is due to be razed returned to the home and discovered several items to include a microwave, copper piping, and the outdoor HVAC unit had been taken.

This case is being investigated.
Arrest – Shoplifting 15-006715 Giant Food Store 359 Maple Avenue, East July 03 7:10 p.m. An employee reported an individual had entered the store and placed several DVD’s in his pants and then left the store without paying for them.
The employee was able to detain the man until Sgt. Sheeran arrived at which time he arrested the 36 year old man from Zion Drive in Fairfax, Virginia for Petit Larceny (Third or Subsequent).
The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was held on a $1,500.00 bond.
Police Service 15-006697 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South July 10 10:29 a.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in a Flare Gun and flares for destruction.
Shoplifting 15-006704 Vienna Drug Center 150 Maple Avenue, West July 10 1:55 p.m. An employee reported a juvenile entered the store and attempted to conceal packages of over the counter cold medicine in his backpack. The employee was able to detain the juvenile until the arrival of police.
PFC Lyons responded and after speaking with the juvenile he transported him to the Vienna Police Station where his grandmother was contacted and responded to take him home.
This case is being investigated.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 15-006725 Rite Aid 215 Maple Avenue, West July 10 11:33 p.m. Sgt. Sheeran and PFC Kiley responded to the Rite Aid in response to an individual who was suffering from a medical emergency. Upon arrival he spoke with friends of the individual who stated they had been at McDonald’s when their friend went unconscious. They stated they put him in the car and were going to transport him to a hospital when they decided it would be better to call 911.
Sgt. Sheeran spoke with members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department who stated they would be transporting the individual to an area hospital for treatment of what appeared to be a narcotic overdose.
PFC Kiley responded to the hospital and after speaking with the individual he obtained a warrant for Possession of a Class I or II Narcotic.
Case Update:
On July 11 the individual turned himself in at the Vienna Police Station in reference to the warrant obtained by PFC Kiley. The 21 year old man from Woodcrest Drive in Reston, Virginia was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Possession of a Class I or II Narcotic and held without bond.
Arrest – Drunk in Public 15-006729 Center Street at Maple Avenue, NW July 11 1:40 a.m. PFC Kiley was on patrol when he was informed of an individual stumbling across Center Street, North and appeared to be intoxicated. Upon his interaction with the individual he determined he was intoxicated and as a result of his intoxication he arrested the 21 year old man from Heavenly Circle in Leesburg, Virginia for Drunk in Public.
The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.
Juvenile Case 15-006764 Park Street at Locust Street, SE July 12 2:36 a.m. PFC Lyons was on patrol when he happened upon a juvenile who appeared to be very distraught. The juvenile stated he had been in an argument with his mother and was taking a walk to clear his head.
PFC Kiley transported the juvenile back to his home and released him to his father.
Arrest – Drunk in Public 15-006767 W&OD Trail at Adahi Road, SE July 12 5:56 a.m. PFC Tracy responded to the area after receiving a report of an unresponsive male lying on the trail. Upon locating the individual he determined he was extremely intoxicated. As a result of his intoxication he arrested the 19 year old man from Orrin Street, SE in Vienna for Drunk in Public.
The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.
Open Door 15-006776 Yarasai Sushi 128 Maple Avenue, West July 12 3:16 p.m. PFC Lyons responded to Yarasai Sushi after a potential customer entered the restaurant, through an unlocked door, and noticed the business appeared to be vacant.
PFC Lyons along with Sgt. Farhan searched the business and determined nothing appeared to be out of place.
Burglary 15-006779 100 Block Niblick Drive, SE July 12 between 6:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. A resident reported he and his wife had been out for a short time and when they returned they discovered someone entered their home and had taken several pieces of jewelry from the master bedroom.
The resident stated as he was leaving he observed a suspicious looking white male walking in the area. The male appeared to be under 30, between 6’00” and 6’2” wearing a gray shirt and carrying a black backpack.
This case is being investigated.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 15-006806 900 Block Maple Avenue, East July 14 12:06 a.m. Officer Herrera was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his approach to the vehicle he detected the distinct odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. After speaking with the driver he located a measurable amount of marijuana.
Officer Herrera issued a summons to the 21 year old man from Barcelona Court in Fairfax, Virginia for Possession of Marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.
Medical Case 15-006809 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE July 14 1:45 a.m. Officer Herrera responded to the area after receiving a report that a resident may have been intending to harm herself. Upon arriving he spoke with the resident who requested she be taken to an area hospital to speak with someone about her condition.
Officer Herrera transported her to an area hospital where she was able to speak with a health professional.
Medical Case 15-006820 Cynthia Lane, NE July 14 10:59 a.m. The siblings of a resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to report concerns they had for their sister’s health and her need for medical treatment. Officer Slebonick informed the siblings of the procedures that would need to be followed to ensure their sister would receive the treatment needed.
The siblings returned later in the day after acquiring the proper paper work.
Officer Slebonick responded to the resident’s home and transported her to an area hospital for treatment.
Arrest – Warrant Service 15-006821 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE July 14 11:42 a.m. Officer Slebonick was notified by the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office concerning an arrest warrant that had been issued for a resident believed to be living in the Town of Vienna.
Officer Slebonick responded to the address given by the Sheriff’s Office and located the individual named on the warrant. The 29 year old man from Cedar Lane, SE in Vienna was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Assault and Battery from Fairfax County, and 17 counts of Extortion from the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office.
The man was held without bond.
Civil Dispute 15-006828 500 Block Kingsley Road, SW July 14 3:21 p.m. A resident returned home from work to find her landlord had removed all her personal property from her apartment and had taken her cat.
MPO Vazquez responded and contacted the landlord who informed him the resident’s lease had expired and he wanted her evicted. The landlord was informed of the proper eviction process and to return the cat to the resident.
The cat was returned unharmed and in good health.
Found Property 15-006836 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South July 14 8:00 p.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in a wallet she had found at Oakton Elementary School. Sgt. Sheeran attempted to contact the owner of the wallet but was unsuccessful.
The wallet will be held at the police station in the event the owner is located.
Fraud 14-006837 500 Block Orchard Street, NW July 14 10:14 p.m. A resident reported she had been reviewing a credit card account and discovered someone had made several charges to the account without her knowledge.
This case is being investigated.
Police Service 15-006865 Church Street at W&OD Trail July 15 6:25 p.m. Officer Lyons responded to the area after receiving a report of an injured bicyclist. Upon arriving she spoke with the bicyclist who stated she fell off her bike after being struck by an SUV in the rear wheel. The bicyclist had scrapes to both knees but refused rescue.
The driver of the SUV contacted Officer Lyons and stated she had seen the bicyclist fall off her bike after her vehicle passed her. The driver stated she attempted to turn around to render aid but the girl had left the scene.
There was no damage to the bicycle or the SUV that would indicate a collision had occurred.
Suspicious Person 15-006894 300 Block Branch Circle, SE July 16 1:10 p.m. A resident reported she was walking in the area of Glyndon Street, SE when she was approached by a black male, in his late 30’s to early 40’s, driving a black SUV. She stated the man engaged her in conversation and then began asking questions that made her uncomfortable. The resident ran away from the SUV and contacted the police department.
The black SUV was gone from the area prior to the arrival of the police officer.
