Vienna Crime: Early Morning Noise Violation, Concealed Weapon Violation

INCIDENTS

Fraud 15-002234 900 Block Frederick Street, SW Between January 01 at 12:00 p.m. and February 10 at 12:00 p.m. A resident reported he had contracted with an accounting firm in 2014 to prepare his 2013 income taxes, which have yet to be completed.

The resident informed the accounting firm he did not wish to continue working with them and he would not be paying for their services.

He stated on two occasions funds had been deducted from his account in spite of his continued emails and telephone calls requesting they cease all deductions from his account.

This case is being investigated.

Arrest – Drunk in Public/Narcotics Violation 15-002219 7-11 427 Maple Avenue, East February 27 1:28 a.m.

Officer Kiley responded to the area in reference to a 911 hang up call. Upon arriving he observed an individual chase another individual inside the store.

Officer Kiley approached the individual who appeared to be the aggressor and after his interaction he determined he was intoxicated. Officer Kiley transported the 23 year old Hispanic man from Vienna to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where after being searched he located a measurable amount of marijuana.

Officer Kiley secured a warrant for Drunk in Public and Possession of Marijuana. While attempting to serve the warrants the man became disorderly and was escorted to a secure room to be served with the warrants when he regained his composure.

Suspicious Event 15-002232 1100 Block Wesbriar Court, NE February 27 10:08 a.m. The owner of a rental home reported when he went to check on his property he discovered foot prints leading up to the water spigots and a hose connected to one. The homeowner stated a construction crew had been working on the home next door and they may have been using his water.

Officer Slebonick spoke with the workers at the home under construction who informed him Town of Vienna DPW workers had connected the hose to ensure that water was flowing to both the rental property and the home under construction.

Officer Slebonick spoke with workers from DPW who confirmed those facts.

Noise Complaint 15-002281 100 Block Melody Lane, SW February 28 6:50 a.m. MPO Shaw responded to the area for the report of construction being performed on a residence in violation of the Town of Vienna Noise Ordinance.

Upon his arrival he located a workman loading dirt into a dump truck. MPO Shaw issued a summons for violation of the Town of Vienna Noise Ordinance to the 39 year old man from Vienna.

After signing the summons he was released.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation/Weapons Violation 15-002341 100 Block Nutley Street, SW February 28 10:14 p.m. Officer Tremont responded to the area for the report of a suspicious person walking in the roadway. Upon arriving he located the individual and determined he was intoxicated. While speaking with the individual Officer Tremont observed the butt of a handgun protruding from his pant pocket. A search incident to his arrest revealed he was in possession of a concealed handgun, a measurable amount of marijuana and an undisclosed amount of a Schedule IV Narcotic for which he did not possess a valid prescription.

Officer Tremont arrested the 26 year old man from Vienna and transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention where he was charged with Drunk in Public, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Schedule IV Narcotic.

The man was held on a $2,500.00 bond.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 15-002353 Lawyers Road at Upham Place, NW March 01 3:18 a.m. Officer Herrera was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations. As a result of those violations he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment.

After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests Officer Herrera arrested the 23 year old man from Vienna and transported him to the Vienna Police Station. Once at the police station he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis.

After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and held on a $1,500.00 bond.

Open Door 15-002357 The Plastic Surgery Center 503 Maple Avenue, West March 01 1:34 p.m. An alarm company reported that a business alarm had been activated.

Officer Slebonick responded and located an open door to the business. After searching the business and finding nothing appeared to be out of place he contacted an employee. The employee did not wish to respond to the business.

Officer Slebonick secured the door prior to leaving.

Medical Case 15-002375 900 Block Moorefield Creek Road, SW March 02 1:33 p.m. A resident reported that she and her adult son had been involved in a physical altercation after which he left the residence.

Officer Kiley responded and after speaking with the resident he was able to locate her son a short distance from the residence. The son agreed to return home with Officer Kiley, once home he requested he be transported to an area hospital.

Medical Case 15-002388 600 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW March 02 11:26 p.m. A resident reported his son had been suffering from a medical emergency. PFC Lyons responded and was met by members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department who evaluated the son and transported him to an area hospital.

Suspicious Event 15-002389 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE March 03 2:40 a.m. A resident reported that her ex-husband had shown up at her apartment unexpectedly after being out of the state for several months. She requested he be informed that he was not permitted to be at the apartment.

The ex-husband was located in the parking lot and informed of his ex-wife’s wishes. He agreed to leave and not return.

Domestic Assault 15-002418 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE March 03 8:30 p.m. A resident reported her ex-husband had returned to her apartment after being previously informed he was not welcome. She stated an argument ensued and he assaulted her and threatened her. The resident stated she did not wish to pursue charges however she did wish to obtain an Emergency Protective Order against him.

Sgt. Farhan transported her to the Fairfax County Magistrates Office where an Emergency Protective Order was issued.

Officer Tracy located the ex-husband at a residence in Fairfax County where he was served with the Emergency Protective Order and informed to have no contact with his ex-wife.

Found Property 15-002432 Glyndon Street at Moore Avenue, SE March 04 8:50 a.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in a Kyocera cellular telephone he had found.

The telephone will be held at the police station until the owner can be identified.

Arrest – Alcohol Violation/Narcotics Violation/False Id. 15-002436, 15-002457, 15-002459 500 Block Maple Avenue, West March 05 1:00 a.m. Officer Herrera was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic offenses. As a result of those offenses he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver and her passengers he detected the odors of alcohol and marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

After speaking with all the passengers Officer Herrera issued summonses to an 18 year old male from Vienna for Underage Possession of Alcohol and Possession of a False Identification Card. A second 18 year old male from Vienna was issued summonses for Underage Possession of Alcohol and Possession of Marijuana.

Officer Herrera also determined that one of the passengers, who had also consumed alcohol, was a juvenile. The juvenile was released to his mother.

This case is being investigated.

CRASHES

Church Street near Lawyers Road, NW 15-002223 February 26 6:00 p.m. The owner of a legally parked vehicle returned to her car and discovered it had been struck by an unknown vehicle.

Courthouse Road at Nutley Street, SW 15-002222 February 27 7:10 a.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling eastbound on Courthouse Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Nutley Street, SW with the left turn green arrow indicating his right of way.

The driver of the second vehicle was traveling westbound on Courthouse Road and attempted to make a right turn on a red traffic signal to travel northbound on Nutley Street, SW and collided with the first vehicle.

Windover Avenue near James Madison Drive, NW 15-002247 February 27 2:22 p.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling eastbound on Windover Avenue, NW.

The driver of the second vehicle was traveling westbound on Windover Avenue and attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot and collided with the first vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Yield the Right of Way.

Maple Avenue near Beulah Road, NE 15-002251 February 27 3:38 p.m. The drivers of three vehicles were traveling westbound on Maple Avenue approaching the intersection with Beulah Road, NE in the same lane of travel.

The driver of the first and second vehicles in line stopped due to heavy rush hour traffic. The driver of the third vehicle in line had taken his attention away from the roadway and when he turned his attention back he was unable to stop and rear ended the second vehicle causing that vehicle to rear end the first vehicle in line.

The driver of the third vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

John Marshall near Glyndon Street, NE 15-002292 February 28 9:39 a.m. The driver of a vehicle was backing out of a driveway and struck a pedestrian who was crossing behind his vehicle on the sidewalk.

The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.

Maple Avenue near Pleasant Street, SW 15-002306 February 28 1:38 p.m. The driver of the first vehicle was exiting a parking lot to travel westbound on Maple Avenue.

The driver of the second vehicle was traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue and entered the left turn lane in an attempt to make the green traffic signal at Maple Avenue and Lawyers Road, NW and collided with the first vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Unsafe Lane Change.

100 Block Church Street, NE 15-002330 February 28 9:10 p.m. The owner of a legally parked vehicle returned to find it had been struck by an unknown vehicle.

Maple Avenue at East Street, NE 15-002381 March 02 6:26 p.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue and was attempting to make a left turn onto East Street, NE.

The driver of the second vehicle was traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, NE and collided with the first vehicle in the intersection.

Maple Avenue at Niblick Drive, SE 15-002382 March 02 7:01 p.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue, SE.

The driver of the second vehicle was traveling westbound on Maple Avenue and attempted to make a left turn onto Niblick Drive, SE and collided with the first vehicle.

Nutley Street near Orchard Street, NW 15-002401 March 03 9:40 a.m. The driver of the first vehicle, a Town of Vienna maintenance vehicle, was stopped in the northbound lane of Nutley Street, NW to repair a pothole.

The driver of the second vehicle was traveling northbound on Nutley Street in the same lane of travel. The driver stated he was distracted and rear ended the first vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Ayr Hill Avenue at Dominion Road, NE 15-002453 March 04 7:06 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling westbound on Ayr Hill Avenue in the same lane of travel. The driver of the first vehicle stopped at the stop sign at Dominion Road, NE and was rear ended by the second vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons for Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Creek Crossing Road at Fairway Drive, NE 15-002470 March 05 10:27 a.m. The driver of a vehicle was traveling westbound on Creek Crossing Road when he lost control of his vehicle, running off the roadway, and struck a handrail before coming to a stop in the creek below Creek Crossing Road, NE.

200 Block Cherry Street, SW 15-002474 March 05 1:44 p.m. The driver of a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Cherry Street, SW. The driver stated he did not see a large pothole that was covered with snow. His vehicle struck the pothole causing damage to passenger side front wheel and rim of his vehicle.

TAX SEASON SCAM

Note to Citizens – During this time of year, Tax Season, many residents report receiving calls from individuals claiming to be employees of the IRS. The callers claim the resident has either committed tax fraud or had improperly filed previous tax returns. The caller informs the resident to send a Western Union payment or purchase a prepaid debit card, for payment, or the resident will be arrested. This type of call is a scam. Never send a payment unless you have verified the validity of the caller.

Note to Citizens: Please remove all valuables from an unattended vehicle and most importantly, lock the vehicle doors.
