Vienna Crime: Hit and Run, Marijuana Possession, Attempted Cigarette Theft + More
The week in crime in the Town of Vienna, from the Town of Vienna Police Department weekly crime report.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from June 26, 2015 – July 02, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

INCIDENTS
Hit and Run 15-006399 400 Block Maple Avenue, West June 16 6:15 p.m. The owner of a legally parked vehicle returned to find her vehicle had been struck by an unknown vehicle. A witness in the area was able to provide the license plate information and the physical description of the driver in the striking vehicle.

Officer Tremont responded to the area and armed with the evidence given by the witness, he was able to locate the owner and driver of the vehicle. The owner informed him his daughter works in the area where the hit and run occurred and she would have been driving the vehicle at that time.
Officer Tremont spoke with the owner’s daughter who stated she was exiting a parking space and may have struck another vehicle. She stated she was unsure what to do next and left the scene.
The owner provided his insurance information which was turned over to the owner of the vehicle that had been struck. She informed Officer Tremont she did not wish to pursue charges at that time.
Petit Larceny 15-006237 8600 Block Redwood Drive, SE Between June 23 at 10:00 p.m. and June 24 at 8:00 a.m. A resident reported someone had taken a garden hose from her front yard.
The hose is described as green with a black nozzle.
Suspicious Person 15-006226 BB&T Bank 440 Maple Avenue, East June 24 between 8:40 a.m. and 10:36 a.m. An employee reported a suspicious man had attempted to enter the bank prior to the bank’s opening at 9:00 a.m. The employee also stated the same man returned, later in the day, and asked to use the restroom. The man was given permission to use the restroom but left instead.
Trespassing 15-006240 Weichert Realtors 156 Maple Avenue, East June 24 4:38 p.m. An employee reported a man, with a shopping cart, had been coming into the parking lot and sitting on a bench on the property. She stated this was making her customers uncomfortable and she wanted the man to be trespassed from the property.
MPO Vazquez responded and informed the man he was no longer welcome to sit on the bench.
He agreed to leave without incident.
Fraud 15-006388 200 Block Patrick Street, SW Between June 25 at 12:00 p.m. and June 27 at 12:00 p.m. A resident reported her daughter had been looking for employment using the internet site “SitterCity.Com”. She stated her daughter was contacted by an individual who agreed to hire her and sent her a check for her first advance and to cover items needed for her employment.
The resident stated her daughter contacted her and told her of her new employment at which time her mother recognized this as a scam. The bank was contacted and no funds were withdrawn.
This case is being investigated.
Civil Dispute 15-006279 100 Block Park Street, SE June 25 2:34 p.m. A former tenant reported his landlord had stolen a television from his business after he was forced to vacate the building.
Officer Slebonick spoke with MPO Vazquez, who was present when the tenant vacated, and was informed the tenant was given several opportunities to take the television but declined at that time.
The former tenant was informed this was a civil matter and not a matter for the police.
Grand Larceny 15-006335 McDonald’s 544 Maple Avenue, West Between June 26 at 9:00 a.m. and June 27 at 12:03 p.m. A resident reported he had been at McDonald’s for lunch and left without his telephone. He returned later only to find his telephone had been taken.
Grand Larceny 15-006298 Westwood Country Club 800 Maple Avenue, East June 26 9:50 a.m.
Two members of the Westwood Country Club reported their vehicles had been broken into and items were taken. They stated each of their vehicle’s alarms had been activated and when they moved closer to de-activate them they noticed a black sedan slowly driving from the area.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 15-006327 7-11 427 Maple Avenue, East June 26 11:59 p.m. Officer Herrera was on patrol when he observed three suspicious males in front of the 7-11. Two of the males entered the store while one of the men stayed outside. The two men in the store stayed for a very short time then exited in a hurried manner. After the men left the store the manager alerted Officer Herrera that one of the men attempted to abscond with cigarettes from the back counter.
Officer Herrera was able to locate the three individuals near Maple Avenue and Branch Road, SE. After speaking with them he discovered one of the individuals was a juvenile and a second individual, a 20 year old man from Stefan Drive in Dunn Loring, Virginia, was in possession of alcohol and marijuana.
Officer Herrera contacted the juvenile’s mother who responded to the area and took her son home.
The 20 year old man was issued a summons for Possession of Marijuana and Underage Possession of Alcohol and released after signing the summonses.
Vehicle Tampering 15-006330 700 Block Skyline Drive, NE June 27 2:52 a.m. A resident returned home to find a black male, in his early 20’s, with short hair, wearing a black T-Shirt, sitting in her vehicle.
The resident approached the individual and asked him why he was sitting in her car. She stated he was very polite and said he was trying to get out of the rain. The individual then left prior to the arrival of the police.
The resident stated nothing in her vehicle was disturbed or taken. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the individual.
Juvenile Case 15-006332 Park Terrace Court, SE June 27 11:03 a.m. Sgt. Sheeran received a notice of a Shelter Care Order that had been issued for a juvenile at this address. The juvenile was located and transported to the Fairfax County Juvenile Intake Center where the order was served.
Arrest – Alcohol Violation 15-006360 200 Block Mill Street, NE June 28 5:40 a.m. MPO Seitz was on patrol when he observed a moped traveling in his direction with a passenger who was not wearing a helmet, as required by law. As a result of that violation he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the operator and the passenger he detected the operator had consumed alcohol and was under the age of 21.
MPO Seitz issued a summons to the operator, a 20 year old man from Chain Bridge Road in Vienna for Underage Possession of Alcohol. The passenger, a 19 year old man from Midlothian Court in Vienna was issued a summons for No Helmet.
After signing their respective summonses the men were released.
Found Property 15-006371 Church Street at Dominion Road, NE June 28 3:10 p.m. An unknown citizen turned in a Virginia Operator’s License and credit card that had been found during the “Afternoons on Church Street” event.
Officer Lyons attempted to contact the owner of the items but was unsuccessful.
The items will be held at the Vienna Police Station until the owner can be identified.
911 Hang Up 15-006387 200 Block Maple Avenue, West June 29 10:11 a.m. Officer Tremont responded to the area after receiving information from a Fairfax County Police Dispatcher that an individual had telephoned and stated he wanted to harm himself.
Vienna Police Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the individual. Officer Tremont was able to determine the caller resided in Fairfax County. A Fairfax County Police Officer responded to that address and spoke with owner of the telephone. He informed them his telephone had been hacked and he had no intention of harming himself.
Animal Case 15-006389 400 Block Onondio Circle, SE June 29 10:56 a.m. Officer Digan responded to the area after receiving the report of a cat that had been injured. Upon arriving he determined the cat was in distress and transported it to the Fairfax County Animal Control Shelter for treatment.
Suspicious Event 15-006411 CVS 337 Maple Avenue, East June 30 1:20 a.m. An employee reported an individual had entered the store and became disorderly after the employee refused to sell him medical use needles. The individual left the store prior to the arrival of the police officer.
Suspicious Person 15-006430 Shell Gas Station 545 Maple Avenue, West June 30 2:22 p.m. Employees of the Shell Gas Station reported a man had been hanging around the business. The employees requested he be trespassed from the property.
Officer Tremont spoke with the man and informed him he was no longer permitted on the property of the Shell Gas Station.
Telephone Case 15-006434 600 Block Valley Drive, SE June 30 3:15 p.m. A resident reported she had been receiving annoying telephone calls for several months. She stated the caller never speaks and there is no noise on the line.
Officer Herrera attempted to call the telephone number but received a message the number was not in service. The resident was advised to block the number.
Animal Case – Quarantine 15-006462 The Hope Center 140 Park Street, SE An employee had been bitten on the hand while attempting to perform a medical procedure on a 14 year old Portuguese Water Dog named Cleo.
The Hope Center agreed to keep Cleo in their care during the quarantine period.

Assist Fire/EMS 15-006448 400 Block Maple Avenue, East June 30 10:50 p.m. MPO Vazquez responded to the area for the report of a female that was suffering from a medical emergency.
Fairfax County Rescue personnel were summoned and transported the female to an area hospital for treatment.
Open Door 15-006457 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE July 01 12:02 p.m. An alarm company reported that a business alarm had been activated. Sgt. Elias along with PFC Kiley responded and located an open door. Both officers searched the business and found nothing appeared to be out of place.
They were able to secure the door prior to leaving.
Trespassing 15-006464 Michele Rene Building 165 Maple Avenue, East July 01 3:01 p.m. The landlord reported a tenant who had been previously forced to vacate the property had returned. The landlord, in the presence of PFC Kiley, informed the former tenant he was no longer permitted on the property. He was then escorted from the property.
