Vienna Crime: Tire Slashing, Hit and Run, Trespassing at Glyndon Park + More
The week in crime in the Town of Vienna, from the Town of Vienna Police Department weekly crime report.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from July 13, 2015 – July 23, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

INCIDENTS
Civil Case 15-006932 200 Block Audreys Court, SE Between December 31, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. and July 17, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. A resident contracted with a paving company to repave his driveway. After agreeing on a price and making a down payment, the contractor left stating he would return to complete the work after his supplies had been delivered. After several weeks and many excuses as to why the work had not been completed, the contractor returned to the resident’s home and stated he could not perform the work or return his money.

The contractor offered to let the resident punch him in return for not having the money stating he “deserved it.” The resident declined that offer and called the police instead.
Officer Slebonick contacted the contractor and informed him of his need to return the deposit.
Case Update:
On July 18, 2015 the contractor returned to the resident’s home and returned the deposit.
Fraud 15-007024 7-11 427 Maple Avenue, East July 04 11:00 a.m. A citizen reported he made a withdrawal from the ATM located inside the 7-11. After receiving the currency he attempted to make a purchase at a local business establishment and was informed the one hundred dollar bill was counterfeit.
This case is being investigated.
Fraud 15-007019 AVS Heating and Cooling 231 Mill Street, NE Between July 06 at 9:00 a.m. and July 21 at 8:57 a.m. An employee was reviewing a company credit card account and discovered several fraudulent charges had been made to the account.
Vandalism 15-006978 600 Block John Marshall Drive, NW Between July 11 at 10:00 a.m. and July 12 at 5:00 p.m. A resident reported someone had vandalized her vehicle by slashing the front tires and keying the front fender.
Petit Larceny 15-006976 100 Block Patrick Street, SW Between July 12 at 9:00 a.m. and July 19 at 11:54 a.m. A resident reported an “Echo” brand leaf blower had been taken from the shed in his backyard.
Arrest – Fraud 15-006915 100 Block Branch Road, SE July 16 9:00 p.m. Officer Reedy responded to the Sweet Ginger Restaurant after an employee reported a customer had left without paying for her food. The employee stated the female and two of her friends entered the restaurant and became disorderly after ordering their meal and then threatened the waitress.
The disruptive diner left the restaurant prior to the arrival of the police officers. Officer Reedy was alerted by another diner that the female was attempting to elude the officers by hiding in her friend’s vehicle.
Sgt. Elias and Officer Reedy approached the vehicle and attempted to obtain the female’s information at which time she became combative and resisted all their attempts to resolve the situation. Due to her level of combativeness the officers were given no other option but to arrest the 19 year old female from Kloman Street in Annandale, Virginia for Defrauding an Innkeeper and Resisting Arrest.
The female was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. She was then released on her signature.
Arrest – Drunk in Public 15-006925 Shell Service Station 545 Maple Avenue, West July 17 7:19 a.m. MPO Lose responded to the area after receiving the report of an individual pushing a shopping cart and walking in the roadway. Upon his arrival he determined the individual was extremely intoxicated. MPO Lose arrested the 49 year old man, with no fixed address, for Drunk in Public.
The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.
Grand Larceny 15-006933 Vienna Community Center 120 Cherry Street, SE July 17 between 4:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. A citizen reported he had placed his unsecured bicycle next to a bench in front of the Community Center. He stated when he returned he discovered his bicycle had been stolen.
Domestic Dispute 15-006935 Glyndon Street, SE July 17 8:51 p.m. A resident reported she and her husband had been involved in a heated argument. Officer Tremont responded and after speaking with both the husband and wife he determined the argument had not turned physical.
The husband agreed to take their daughter and spend the night elsewhere to allow for a cooling down period.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 15-006937 Wolf Trap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West July 17 11:37 p.m. Officer Herrera responded to the Wolf Trap Hotel after receiving information of suspicious activity occurring in one of the hotel rooms. Upon approaching the room he detected the distinct odor of marijuana emanating from the room.
Officer Herrera made contact with the occupants of the room and after his interaction with them he located a measurable amount of marijuana.
Officer Herrera issued summonses to a 23 year old female from Lees Corner Road in Chantilly, Virginia, a 27 year old female from Westwind Way in McLean, Virginia, a 22 year old man from Maple Leaf Court in Springfield, Virginia, a 22 year old man from Hamilton Court in Lorton, Virginia, a 24 year old man from Grayson Street in Springfield, Virginia and a 21 year old man from Meadowood Drive in Alexandria, Virginia for Possession of Marijuana.
All the individuals were released after signing their respective summonses.
Arrest – Hit and Run 15-006967 600 Block Kingsley Road, SW July 18 12:03 a.m. PFC Tremont responded to the area for the report of a hit and run. The owner of the legally parked vehicle stated he heard a loud noise and when he went to investigate he found his car had been struck. The force of the crash caused his vehicle to be pushed to the curb on the opposite side of the street from where it had been parked. The driver of the striking vehicle had left the scene prior to the arrival of the police.
Sgt. Sheeran was in the area and located the striking vehicle at Virginia Center Boulevard and Nutley Street, SW and conducted a traffic stop.
During the investigation the driver became uncooperative and informed the officers he possessed Diplomatic Immunity from Saudi Arabia. As a result of his Diplomatic status PFC Tremont issued him a summons for Hit and Run. The driver contacted a friend to drive him home and was released after he agreed to sign the summons.
Juvenile Case 15-006944 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE July 18 6:21 a.m. A Fairfax Yellow Cab driver reported he picked up a fare and drove him to his destination at Arrowhead Circle in Fairfax, Virginia. The driver stated when they arrived the fare stated he did not have the money to pay for the ride and may have dropped it where he was picked up. The cab driver returned to the original place of the pickup. After arriving back at the original starting point the fare informed the cab driver he never had the money for the ride.
Officer Slebonick responded and identified the fare as a juvenile. The juvenile’s father was contacted and responded to the area and paid for his son’s fare. Officer Slebonick counseled the juvenile on his action before releasing him to his father.
Animal Complaint 15-006947 100 Block Beulah Road, NE July 18 12:35 p.m. MPO Shaw responded to the area after a citizen reported finding a dog walking down Beulah Road. MPO Shaw identified “Jasper” and was able to ascertain his address as well. After returning Jasper home MPO Shaw spoke with a neighbor, who informed him Jasper’s electronic collar appeared to be broken.
ACO Barker will follow up with this case.
Civil Case 15-006948 700 Block Plum Street, SW July 18 2:04 p.m. A resident reported that her landlord was attempting to illegally evict her from her apartment. The landlord stated she was only there to take pictures of the apartment to document any damage that may have occurred.
The landlord was permitted inside the apartment to take the pictures without further incident.
Petit Larceny 15-006951 Outback Steakhouse 315 Maple Avenue, West July 18 3:42 p.m. An employee reported a group of six people were dining in the restaurant when one of the diners approached him and began complaining about the food and service. As the employee was in the process of adjusting his bill, he observed the man motion to his fellow diners to flee out the front door.
The employee stated the individuals fled in separate directions without paying the bill.
Trespassing 15-006962 Glyndon Park 300 Glyndon Street, NE July 18 11:00 p.m. Sgt. Sheeran was on patrol when he observed a vehicle parked in the parking lot of Glyndon Park in violation of the No Trespassing after Dark Ordinance.
Sgt. Sheeran approached the vehicle and identified both the driver and passenger as being juveniles. After counselling the juveniles they were released to their mothers.
Arrest – Drunk in Public 15-006964 800 Block Plum Street, SW July 18 11:24 p.m. Officer Herrera responded to the area after receiving a report of an individual sleeping in a resident’s front yard. After arriving and waking the individual from his sleep he determined the individual was intoxicated. As a result of his intoxication he arrested the 22 year old man from Ridge Road, SW in Vienna for Drunk in Public.
The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.
Found Property 15-006977 100 Block Patrick Street, SW July 19 11:54 a.m. PFC Vazquez was in the area investigating a larceny when he found a Dewalt brand circular saw lying in the wooded area behind a residence.
The saw will be held at the Vienna Police Station in the event the owner is identified.
Animal Case 15-007013 The Hope Center 140 Park Street, SE July 20 6:18 p.m. MPO Seitz responded to the area after an employee reported finding a dog running in the area.
The dog was transported to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter where it will be held until the owner can be identified.
Vandalism 15-007026 Anytime Fitness 111 Church Street, NW July 21 between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
An employee returned to her vehicle, which had been parked in the underground garage, and discovered a scratch that ran the entire length of the vehicle.
This case is being investigated.
Grand Larceny 15-007028 Vienna Elementary School 128 Center Street, South July 21 11:00 a.m. Two juveniles, who attended a day camp at the school, returned to the bike rack and discovered both of their bicycles had been taken. They stated the bicycles had been left unsecured.
Found Property 15-007047 Cottage Street at Cedar Lane, SW July 22 1:43 p.m. An unknown citizen responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in a wallet she had found.
The wallet will be held at the police station until the owner can arrange to pick it up.
Telephone Case 15-007064 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE July 22 7:13 p.m. A resident reported she had been receiving numerous telephone calls from a company attempting to solicit money for free English lessons.
The resident had blocked the number from her cellular telephone, however, the calls had continued.
Arrest – Alcohol Violation 15-007071 Maple Avenue at Center Street, South July 22 10:13 p.m. Officer Herrera was on patrol when he observed a vehicle with defective equipment. As a result of the defective equipment he conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the 20 year old driver he observed a bottle of beer under the driver’s seat.
Officer Herrera issued the 20 year old man from Brooktrail Court in Vienna a summons for Underage Possession of Alcohol. He was released after signing the summons.
Domestic Dispute 15-007073 Blair Road, NW July 22 10:51 p.m. A resident reported that she and her husband had been in a verbal argument. Officer Herrera responded and after speaking with both parties he determined no physical altercation had occurred.
Arrests – Alcohol Violation 15-007077 Nutley Street at Roland Street, SW July 23 12:21 a.m. Officer Herrera was on patrol when he observed a vehicle with defective equipment. As a result of the defective equipment he conducted a traffic stop. After speaking with the 18 year old driver and his passengers he determined that everyone in the vehicle had consumed alcohol.
Officer Herrera issued summonses to the 18 year old driver, an 18 year old passenger and four additional 17 year old passengers for Underage Possession of Alcohol.
The parents of the juveniles were contacted and responded to take custody of their children.
Suspicious Event 15-007085 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE July 23 11:09 a.m. A resident reported an individual approached him with the purpose of selling him fraudulent social security and permanent resident cards.
This case is being investigated.
Fraud 15-007088 Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE July 23 12:00 p.m. A resident from Decatur, Georgia reported three checks, drawn from her company account, had been fraudulently cashed at the Navy Federal Credit Union.
This case is being investigated.
Petit Larceny 15-007107 Rite Aid 215 Maple Avenue, West July 23 5:54 p.m. An employee reported an individual entered the store and attempted to return an item the employee believed had been previously stolen. The individual left the store prior to the arrival of the police officer.
Officer Tremont responded and located the individual walking eastbound on Maple Avenue. After speaking with him he determined he had stolen the item and then attempted to return if for the money.
Officer Tremont arrested the 27 year old man from Birney Place, SE in Washington, D.C. for Petit Larceny and transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Felony Petit Larceny and was held on a $3,000.00 bond.
Trespassing 15-007109 Sweet Ginger 120 Branch Road, SE July 23 7:27 p.m. An employee reported that two of the girls that had been involved in a prior incident (See Case Number 15-006915 above) had returned to the restaurant and were attempting to persuade the employee to drop the charges against them.
The employee refused to drop the charges and requested that a police officer respond to trespass the girls from the property.
MPO Smith responded and informed the girls they were no longer permitted on the property or they would be arrested for trespassing.
Civil Case 15-007111 500 Block Maple Avenue, West July 23 8:08 p.m.
A citizen reported he had purchased a vehicle from an individual in Town. The citizen paid for the vehicle prior to taking it for a test drive. After driving the vehicle he noticed it was not inspected and had more damage than he was expecting.
MPO Smith informed him this was a civil matter.
