Vienna Crime: Two Adults Arrested for Bicycle Thefts, Resident Reports Online Scam
The week in crime in the Town of Vienna, from the Town of Vienna Police Department weekly crime report.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from September 11, 2015 – September 17, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

INCIDENTS:
Grand Larceny 15-009074 500 Block Kibler Circle, SW September 16 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A resident reported two bicycles had been stolen from his driveway.

Case Update:
On September 17 Sgt. Sheeran was on patrol when he observed two individuals riding bicycles, matching the descriptions of the ones that had been reported stolen on September 16. After speaking with the individuals and confirming with the owner that these were the stolen bicycles, he arrested the 18 year old man and 19 year old woman from Plum Street, SW in Vienna for Possession of Stolen Property.
The man and woman were transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where they were charged with Possession of Stolen Property and released on their signatures.
Suspicious Event 15-009015 300 Block Windover Avenue, NW Between March 01, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. and September 15 at 9:51 a.m. A resident reported she had been the victim of an online scam since 2011. She stated an online website had been posting false rental listings for a property she owns in Arlington, Virginia.
The website had been scamming potential renters out of their deposits. Since this has been occurring she had been receiving telephone calls from the unsuspecting renters demanding she return their money.
Officer Hylinski suggested she may want to change her telephone number and also, contact the website with the false information and request it be removed.
Identity Fraud 15-008888 100 Block Patrick Street, SW Between April 22 at 6:00 a.m. and September 11 11:46 a.m. A resident reported he was contacted by the Department of Motor Vehicles from both North Carolina and Pennsylvania informing him his driver’s license had been suspended in both states.
The resident stated he had never been charged with a traffic offense in either of those states.
This case is being investigated.
Grand Larceny 15-009068 Whole Foods 143 Maple Avenue, East September 06 between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. A resident reported she left her cellphone in her shopping cart while she was loading groceries in her vehicle. When she realized she left the cellphone in the cart she returned and discovered it was gone.
Inside the cellphone case were several credit cards and an undisclosed amount of money.
This case is being investigated.
Welfare Check 15-008965 600 Block Manor Drive, NE Between September 06 at 12:30 p.m. and December 13 at 4:04 p.m. Residents in the neighborhood contacted the Vienna Police Department over concern for their neighbor who had not been seen in several weeks.
Relatives of the missing neighbor stated they had spoken with him on September 6. They stated he may have been traveling in search of a place to retire.
Responding officers found no signs of foul play or distress at the residence.
Assault 15-008873 Niblick Drive, SE September 11 7:34 a.m. MPO Vazquez responded to a residence in reference to a report of a fight in progress. Upon his arrival he was met by three brothers. Two were involved in the fight the third was a bystander.
The two brothers involved stated since they were wrestlers when they were younger, they would settle the argument by wrestling in the front yard.
Neither brother wished to press charges.
Grand Larceny 15-008974 400 Block Colin Lane, NW Between September 11 at 3:00 p.m. and September 13 at 5:00 p.m. A resident reported someone had taken an undisclosed amount of money and jewelry from her vehicle.
This case is being investigated.
Suspicious Event 15-008902 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE September 11 5:31 p.m. A resident reported she had been involved in an on-line relationship with a man on the website Amigos.Com. She stated during their relationship he requested she send him money and he would have a shipment of money sent to her.
The resident had not heard from him since she informed him she could not send the money.
Officer Slebonick informed her he was attempting to scam her.
Telephone Case 15-008903 100 Block Patrick Street, SE September 11 7:02 p.m. A resident reported she had received a threatening message, via Facebook, to her telephone. She stated she does not know the sender of the messages nor why the person would send the messages.
Sgt. Sheeran informed her of the warrant process should she be able to identify the sender and to report the messages to Facebook.
Assist Fire/EMS 15-008940 Urgent Care 100 Maple Avenue, East September 12 2:00 p.m. MPO Shaw responded to the Urgent Care to assist with a patient who requested she be transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel were summoned and transported the patient at her request.
Civil Case 15-008962 100 Block Church Street, NW September 13 12:15 p.m. The owner of a legally parked vehicle reported the driver of another vehicle, parked next to hers, opened her door and caused a dent to her door. She stated the woman who struck her vehicle denied causing the damage and left the scene prior to the arrival of the police.
Officer Slebonick located the driver of the other vehicle, who denied causing the damage and stated the owner of the parked vehicle became confrontational and would not allow her to leave. She stated she was scared and left the scene.
Both individuals agreed to exchange information should they decide to pursue the incident.
Suspicious Event 15-008971 100 Block Elmar Drive, SE September 13 between 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A resident reported when he returned home he discovered the side door to his Recreational Vehicle was open. The resident stated there was no damage or anything missing from the vehicle.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 15-008968 Patrick Street at Park Street, SE September 13 6:50 p.m. Officer Herrera was on patrol when he observed a vehicle with an equipment violation. As a result of that violation he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver and his passengers he detected the distinct odor of marijuana. After speaking with the rear seat passenger a measurable amount of marijuana was located.
Officer Herrera issued a summons to the 22 year old man from Patrick Street, SE in Vienna for Possession of Marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.
Domestic Dispute 15-008972 Park Street, NE September 13 8:37 p.m. A resident reported his children had spent the weekend with his wife and when she returned them they would not go into his house. The children eventually consented to going with their father.
Arrest – Warrant Service 15-008977 100 Block Maple Avenue, SW September 14 1:51 a.m. Sgt. Sheeran was on patrol when he observed an individual walking behind the businesses in the 100 block of Maple Avenue, SW. After making contact with the individual he learned the man was wanted on a probation violation from the Alexandria Police Department.
Sgt. Sheeran arrested the 35 year old man from Winthur Lane in Reston, Virginia for the probation violation. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was held on a $1,000.00 bond.
Recover Stolen Vehicle 15-008984 400 Block Maple Avenue, SE September 14 10:36 a.m. MPO Nelson received information that a vehicle, possibly stolen from Alexandria, may have been parked in the area. After verifying the vehicle was in fact the one reported stolen, MPO Nelson contacted the reporting agency who responded to process the vehicle.
Suspicious Event 15-009022 1400 Block Desale Street, SW September 15 12:57 p.m. Officer Hylinski responded to the area after receiving a report of a possible homeless encampment located in the wooded area behind the Cedar Lane School. A search of the area revealed clothing and garbage, however, no one was located.
Grand Larceny 15-009070 Caboose Brewing Company 520 Mill Street, NE September 16 1:30 a.m. An employee reported several empty beer kegs and a smoker were stolen from the business.
This case is being investigated.
Police Service 15-009056 700 Block Tapawingo Road, SW September 16 10:50 a.m. A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in the barrel to an AR-15 for destruction.
Police Service 15-009067 The Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South September 16 2:10 p.m.
A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in unwanted ammunition for destruction.
Police Service 15-009086 Hillcrest Drive, SW September 17 6:50 a.m. A resident reported her son had left the house sometime between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. She stated she believed her son went to stay at his girlfriend’s house.
MPO Vazquez drove around the area looking for the son and located him at the McDonalds at 544 Maple Avenue, West. After speaking with him MPO Vazquez transported him back to his residence, to inform his mother he was safe. He then transported her son to his school.
This case is being investigated.
Natural Death 15-009088 300 Block George Street, SW September 17 9:14 a.m. A resident discovered his elderly mother deceased in the living room.
A Detective will follow up with this case.
Trespassing 15-009090 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE September 17 11:20 a.m. A resident reported several teens were hanging out in the area smoking cigarettes. MPO Vazquez responded and determined all the teens had been skipping school. The mother of the teen that is a resident of the Park Terrace Court Apartments was contacted and informed of the teens activities. She stated she wanted all the teens trespassed from her apartment.
MPO Vazquez informed them of the trespassing law and transported the two teen age girls to Madison High School. Officer Slebonick transported a teen age boy to the Cedar Lane School.
Domestic Dispute 15-009094 Wilmar Place, NW September 17 3:49 p.m. A Resident requested police officers respond to his ex-wife’s home after he received a text from his daughter, claiming she and her mother were involved in a heated argument.
Officer Slebonick responded and spoke with both the mother and her daughter. They both confirmed the argument started when the mother took her daughter’s cellphone and laptop away from her.
They both confirmed the argument had not turned physical.
