Vienna Crime: Vandalism at Local Business, Numerous Alcohol Violations

The week in crime in the Town of Vienna, from the Town of Vienna Police Department weekly crime report.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from September 04, 2015 – September 10, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

INCIDENTS:

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated/Possession of Marijuana 15-008584 1100 Block Maple Avenue, East September 04 2:48 a.m. Sgt. Sylmar was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic offenses. As a result of those offenses he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 18 year old man from Durbin Place in Falls Church, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated. While preparing his vehicle to be towed a measurable amount of marijuana was found.

Sgt. Sylmar transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Possession of Marijuana and held on a $3,000.00 bond.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation 15-008612 Fairway Drive at Course Street, NE September 04 4:17 p.m. Officer Hylinski was working a traffic assignment when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic offense. As a result of that offense he conducted a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the driver he detected the distinct odor of marijuana. After further interaction he located a measurable amount of marijuana and paraphernalia.

The 31 year old man from Sandalwood Court in Fairfax, Virginia was issued a summons for Possession of Marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 15-008634 Maple Avenue at Library Lane, SW September 05 1:26 a.m. Officer Reedy was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic offenses. As a result of those offenses he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 31 year old woman from Clay Spur Court in Centreville, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated.

The woman was transported to the Vienna Police Station where she was given the opportunity to provide a sample of her breath for analysis. After the analysis she was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated/Possession of Marijuana 15-008639 8600 Park Street, SE September 05 3:03 a.m. Officer Post was on patrol when she observed the driver of a vehicle commit a series of traffic offenses. As a result of those offenses she conducted a traffic stop. Upon her interaction with the driver she detected the distinct odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. The driver also displayed the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests she arrested the 20 year old man from Hogan Court in Falls Church, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated. A measurable amount of marijuana was also located.

The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Possession of Marijuana.

Destruction of Property 15-008662 1000 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW September 05 6:11p.m. A resident reported his adult son had become upset and began punching holes in the walls.

Officer Post responded and informed the resident of the warrant process should he decide to pursue charges for the destruction of property.

Police Service 15-008665 Jammin Java 227 Maple Avenue, SE September 05 7:52 p.m. MPO Nelson responded to the area for the report of an intoxicated individual sitting on the bench in front of Jammin Java. After speaking with the individual he determined he might benefit more from treatment at the Fairfax County Detox Center instead of the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

The man was transported to the Detox Center but was turned away as he was too intoxicated for admission. He was then transported to an area hospital for treatment of his intoxication.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 15-008692 Glengyle Drive at Chain Bridge Road, NW September 06 3:56 a.m. PFC Kiley was on patrol when he observed a vehicle with defective equipment. As a result of the equipment violation he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 27 year old man from Cedar Lane, SE in Vienna for Driving While Intoxicated.

The man was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Arrest – Drunk in Public 15-008700 Southside Park 1317 Ross Drive, SW September 06 11:56 a.m. Officer Hylinski responded to the Southside Park after receiving a report of individuals drinking in the park. After arriving at the park he located one individual walking on the trail near the playground. The individual was in possession of a partial case of beer and continued to drink the beer as he was talking with the officer.

Officer Hylinski determined the individual was intoxicated and arrested the 52 year old man from Yeonas Drive, SW in Vienna for Drunk in Public.

He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.

Open Door 15-008701 Wells Fargo Bank 212 Maple Avenue, East September 06 12:52 p.m. An alarm company reported a business alarm had been activated at the Wells Fargo Bank. MPO Shaver responded and discovered an unsecure door leading into the building.

He along with Sgt. Farhan searched the business and determined nothing appeared to be out of place or suspicious. Messages were left for the employees to secure the door.

Civil Matter 15-008715 Hair Pair 338 Maple Avenue, SW September 06 9:02 p.m. An employee reported that after she finished coloring and processing a customer’s hair, the customer was unhappy with her new hairstyle and was refusing to pay for the service. She was also refusing to leave the business.

MPO Nelson responded and after speaking with the customer she reluctantly paid for the service then left the business.

Destruction of Property 15-008733 Vienna Rexall Drug Center 150 Maple Avenue, West September 07 2:00 a.m. An employee received an alert that a motion sensor alarm had been activated inside the business. He responded to discover the safety glass to the rear doors had been smashed with what appeared to be a cinder block.

Although the glass had been smashed entry into the business did not appear to have occurred.

Juvenile Case 15-008735 Cottage Street at Courthouse Road, SW September 07 4:45 a.m. MPO Nelson was patrolling in the area when he observed a young female walking alone. Upon his interaction with her he determined she was a juvenile and had left her house for the evening without informing her parents.

MPO Nelson transported the girl to the Vienna Police Station where he contacted her sister who responded and took the girl home.

Noise Complaint 15-008736 Westwood Country Club 800 Maple Avenue, NE September 07 6:15 a.m. MPO Shaw responded to the Westwood Country Club after receiving a complaint concerning a leaf blower being operated in violation of the Town of Vienna Noise Ordinance.

After arriving at the Country Club he located an employee who was clearing the parking lot with the leaf blower. MPO Shaw informed him of the terms of the Noise Ordinance.

Missing Adult 15-008740 300 Block Old Courthouse Road, NE September 07 9:18 a.m. A resident reported she woke up in the morning and discovered her elderly husband, who suffers from a medical condition, was not in the house.

A notice was sent to neighboring police jurisdictions, with the elderly gentleman’s information, in an attempt to locate him.

At approximately 12:45 p.m. MPO Vazquez received information that Fairfax County Police had located the individual. His wife responded to the location and returned her husband home safely.

Open Door 15-008744 Maple Cleaners 348 Maple Avenue, West September 07 10:36 a.m. Officer Slebonick responded to the Maple Cleaners for the report of an open door. Upon arriving he located a door, which was locked but not secure.

Officer Slebonick searched the business and found nothing appeared to be out of place. He secured the door prior to leaving.

Civil Dispute 15-008745 Hillcrest Drive, SW September 07 2:07 p.m. A resident reported her ex-husband was in violation of a custody agreement, by not returning their children to her at the specified time.

Officer Slebonick spoke with the ex-husband who stated he and his ex-wife have differing interpretations of the agreement. He agreed to return the children and both stated they will contact their attorneys to amend the agreement.

Open Door 15-008778 400 Block Orchard Street, NW September 08 1:37 p.m. An alarm company reported a residential alarm had been activated. MPO Shaw and Officer Slebonick responded and found an open door to the residence. The officers searched the residence and found nothing appeared out of place.

The residence was secured prior to leaving.

Police Service 15-008781 1400 Block Desale Street, SW September 08 2:33 p.m. A resident reported her neighbor had yelled profanities at her son as he was walking on the sidewalk in front of her home.

Officer Slebonick responded and spoke with the neighbor who stated she was backing up while mowing her lawn, when she was startled by the boy walking behind her. She admitted she yelled profanities and understood it was inappropriate.

Arrest – Drunk in Public 15-008782 300 Maple Avenue, East September 08 3:36 p.m. MPO Vazquez responded to the area for the report of an unresponsive individual lying in the grass in front of a business. Upon arriving on the scene he was met by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel who stated the individual was responsive but appeared intoxicated.

After speaking with the individual, MPO Vazquez confirmed he was intoxicated and arrested the 29 year old man, with no fixed address, for Drunk in Public.

The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.

Suspicious Vehicle 15-008798 Bank of America 235 Maple Avenue, NW September 09 9:06 a.m. MPO Seitz was on patrol when he observed a suspicious vehicle sitting in the parking lot of the Bank of America. MPO Seitz made contact with the driver of the vehicle who stated he recently started working in the area but was homeless.

An employee of the bank requested he leave and not return to the parking lot.

Vandalism 15-008816 400 Block Orchard Street, NW September 09 between 11:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. A resident reported his mailbox had been knocked from its’ post. He stated this is the third time in three years this has occurred to his mailbox.

There was no evidence at the scene to identify who may have committed the vandalism.

Open Door 15-008811 400 Block East Street, NE September 09 4:08 p.m. An alarm company reported a residential alarm had been activated. Officer Hylinski responded and located an unsecure door in the rear of the residence. After a sweep of the residence and finding nothing appeared out of place the door was secured.
