Vienna Driver Nearly Hits Dog And Owner, Chases Them

Vienna Police say the driver continued to harass the man and dog after nearly hitting them.

VIENNA, VA—What started as a man and dog going for a walk in Vienna escalated into a scary encounter Thursday.

Vienna Police say the man and his dog were crossing the street in the 200 block of Locust Street SE around 7:21 p.m. when a car nearly hit them. The man appeared to get into an argument with the driver, who got out and began chasing the man and dog.

He continued to harrass them, and the man called police. The driver fled in his car before police arrived.

Another notable encounter over the last week was a parent reporting a suspicious person Oct. 6 on Melody Lane SE. She told police a stranger approached her son in a car and began talking with him around 4:15 p.m. The car left the scene and the child was not injured.

Vehicle Tampering 17-8953

200 Block Windover Avenue
Between October 2 1:00 p.m. and October 3 9:15 a.m.

A resident reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole a quarter.

Accident 17-008958
Nutley Street SW / Roland Street SW
October 4 5:44 p.m.

Vehicle-1 was traveling Northbound on Nutley Street SW at Roland Street SW when Vehicle-2 abruptly came to a stop and Driver-1 was forced to brake and lay his bike down. Driver-2 left the scene immediately following the accident. There was minor damage to Vehicle-1 and it was left legally parked in Roland Street SW. Driver-1 was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A suspect sold the business an item. The business later discovered that the item was reported
stolen by another business.

A teacher reported that he was assaulted by a student.

Hit and Run 17-9035

Beulah Road NE / Ayr Hill Ave NE
October 7 4:39 a.m.

Officers responded for a report of an accident and located a damaged pedestrian crossing sign.
During the investigation officers were able to positively identify the driver. The driver was
charged with Hit and Run of unattended property.

Suspicious Event 17-9087

200 Block Cedar Lane SE
October 7 11:17 p.m.

A resident reported that while he was walking home an unknown man approached him from
behind and grabbed his backpack. The resident got scared and ran away.

324 Nutley Street NW
October 9 9:42 p.m.

A citizen reported suspicious noises coming from the school playground. Officers responded to
the scene and located a group of men inside the playground.

October 11 between 8:00 p.m. and 8:05 p.m.

A citizen reported that an unknown person was making online threats toward him and his family.
