Vienna Election Results: 2 Councilmembers Elected, 1 Re-Elected

Three seats on the Vienna Town Council were up for grabs in the May 7 election.

VIENNA, VA—Two candidates were elected to the Vienna City Council and one was re-elected in the May 7 election. Nisha Patel and Steve Potter have been newly elected to two-year terms while Howard Springsteen was re-elected.

Incumbent Tara Bloch, who was elected in 2015, was not re-elected. Her term expires on June 30, 2019.

Vienna residents cast 2,411 ballots in the election. According to the Town of Vienna, the unofficial vote tally was:

  • Tara Bloch: 775 votes
  • Julie Hays: 985 votes
  • Nisha Patel: 1,523 votes
  • Steve Potter: 1,470 votes
  • Howard Springsteen: 1,475 votes
  • Tim Strike: 415 votes
  • Write-in votes: 47

Elections for three council seats are held annually in May. Town Council is made up of the mayor and six councilmembers. Members elected at large for two-year terms. Mayoral elections happen in even-numbered years.

The next elections are the June 11, 2019 Virginia primary and Nov. 5, 2019 general election. Seats for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Virginia House of Delegates and State Senate are up for grabs.
