Vienna Farmers Market Reopens In New Location

If the scorching hot temperatures aren't enough to get you in the summer spirit, there's more where that came from. The Vienna Farmers Market will open for the season Saturday, May 5 at a new location at the Vienna Community Center parking lot, 120 Cherry Street SE. Hosted by the Optimist Club of Greater Vienna, it is open from 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays, May 5 to Nov. 3.

"We needed more visibility and more traffic – foot and otherwise – to support our vendors and enhance this community event, says Optimist Club member Michele Wright. "The Town and NOVA Parks listened to us and worked with us to make the market a success for the club and the Town alike."

Both entrances to the community center will be open as usual, and parking for those attending classes or accessing the W&OD Trail will be available.

"In addition to more visibility, the Optimists were looking for a location with easy access to and from the W&OD Trail," said Parks and Recreation Director Leslie Herman. "They wanted to support a more walkable community and expect with the move that more residents will walk to the market."

The market features over 25 local vendors providing fresh produce, meats, homemade foods and more. Vendors for the farmers market include:

• Cold Country Salmon: Wild caught seafood, smoked salmon and fish dips and marinades
• Crepes and Mexican Fare at the Market: Prepared food-crepes, drinks and other fresh foods
• Dog Love Bakery: Prepared food-dog treats
• Great Harvest Bread: Breads, cookies, quiches and scones
• Gypsy Hill Foods: Spices, rubs, dips, mixes and more
• Kuhn Orchards: Produce, dried apples, jam, jelly, applesauce, canned peaches and cider
• Liberty Hill Farm: Meats, eggs (chicken & duck), honeys, prepared foods and more
