Vienna-Focused Tour de Hunter Mill Bike Ride Set

VIENNA, VA — Registration is now open for the sixth annual Tour de Hunter Mill, a community bike ride in Fairfax County’s Hunter Mill District that will take place Sunday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., according to Supervisor Walter Alcorn (D-Hunter Mill). The ride is open to cyclists of all ages and abilities and will begin and end at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens.

This year’s ride will focus on Vienna, with routes through neighborhoods and green spaces as well as stretches along the I-66 and Route 7 trails. Riders also will pass local parks, use trail connections tied to transit, and travel back roads leading to Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, according to a release.

“I invite everyone in our community to join our district's most active annual tradition,” Alcorn said. “This year the ride focuses on Vienna, and it’s a reminder that biking is a great way to get around Hunter Mill District.”

Two route options are available. The short route is 11 miles and the long route is 19 miles. Riders can sign up as individuals, families or teams with friends, family or colleagues.

The registration fee is $30 per adult rider. Children age 15 and under ride free when accompanied by an adult. Family pricing for up to five people is available by contacting the Hunter Mill District office directly by email or by calling 703-478-0283, TTY 711.

Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling members receive an automatic discount, according to the release. No one will be turned away for inability to pay, and people who cannot afford the fee are encouraged to contact the office to arrange free registration.

Each registered rider will receive Tour de Hunter Mill branded bike socks. Registration also includes a $5 donation to the Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling.

Helmets are required for all riders. The tour will be held rain or shine. The event is scheduled to start and finish at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens on May 3.
