Vienna Lions Club To Celebrate 75 Years

Vienna's Lions Club is celebrating 75 years, and the community is invited for a free event on the Town Green.

VIENNA, VA -- When Vienna Host Lions Club has been around since World War II in 1942, and it will mark 75 years this upcoming weekend with a free community event.

The celebration will take place Saturday, June 3, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. on the Town Green (144 Maple Ave E). Attendees can reminisce about the old days with live music from the World War II era performed by the Nighthawks Swing Band. Vision and hearing screening will be available. Hotdogs, snacks and beverages will be served.

Vienna Host Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, which has local chapters in over 230 countries. The Vienna organization works with local charities and support its international mission of helping the vision and hearing impaired, among other causes.

Some causes include the Old Dominion Eye Bank, Leader Dogs for the Blind, groups that fund research and provide equipment equipment for the visually impaired, preventative education to prevent blindness, diabetes prevention, and work against diseases in third world countries. The Lions Club also collects eyeglasses in yellow and blue boxes in the library, churches and local offices. Thousands of donations have gone to over 30 countries.

The group also supports local causes like the Vienna Town Cleanup, Eagle Scout projects, high school graduation parties, a youth camp in Virginia, Vienna's interfaith Committee for Helping Others (CHO), Vision Walk for retinal disease research, American Legion Post 180 and Madison High School baseball. Some of its fundraisers are at Foster’s Grille of Vienna the first Tuesday of every month and Christmas trees sales at Walgreen's.
