VIENNA, VA — When you enter a lottery drawing, using different numbers on different tickets may increase your odds of winning. But if you play the same numbers on multiple tickets and get lucky, you may end up winning more. That's exactly what happened for one Vienna resident in September.

Jeffrey Demarco had two tickets with the same five numbers in the Sept. 12 Cash 5 day drawing in the Virginia Lottery. Each ticket won the top $100,000 prize, bringing his winnings to $200,000. The winning numbers were 1-8-12-21-27.

"You see other people winning, but you never think it will happen to you!" he told lottery officials.
