Vienna Police Investigate Missing Lawnmower, Spray Painting in Cul-de-Sac, Credit Fraud + More
A look at the most recent incidents investigated by the Town of Vienna Police Department.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from April 24, 2015 – April 30, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.
VIENNA POLICE HIGHLIGHTS is not meant to be a listing of every incident or call handled by the Vienna Police, but merely a more substantive summary of several incidents, which may be of interest to the community. Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations. Telephone Case 15-004252 The Maplewood Grill 132 Branch Road, SE March 27 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:44 p.m. An employee reported that after terminating another employee he has been receiving threatening text and telephone messages.
Officer Lyons attempted to contact the ex-employee by both his telephone number and at his residence without success.
This case is being investigated.
Fraud 15-004101 500 Block Follin Lane, SE Between April 01 at 12:12 p.m. and April 24 at 12:12 p.m. A resident reported she had been reviewing her credit report when she discovered someone had opened two credit card accounts in her name without her knowledge.
This case is being investigated.
Grand Larceny 15-004187 300 Block Sherwood Drive, NE Between April 19 at 6:00 p.m. and April 23 at 6:00 p.m. A resident reported someone had taken his lawnmower which had been stored in his carport.
This case is being investigated.
Police Service 15-004018 The Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South April 21 7:29 a.m.
A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in a semi-automatic handgun he no longer wanted. The resident requested the weapon be destroyed.
Narcotics Violation 15-004112 The Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW April 24 12:45 p.m.
An employee reported he smelled the aroma of marijuana near a door inside the school. The employee stated a student was near the doorway and as he approached her, to determine if she was the source of the odor, she fled on foot. The employee was able to locate the student and persuade her to return to the school.
After returning to the school the employee located suspected marijuana residue in the student’s backpack.
MPO Vazquez responded to the school and advised the employee of the process to obtain warrants, should they decide to pursue charges.
Civil Dispute 15-004116 Gibson Circle, SW April 24 4:18 p.m. MPO Vazquez responded to the area for the report of a child custody dispute. After speaking with the parents it was determined they had agreed to change the terms of the agreement for the weekend. After agreeing to the change the father changed his mind and decided he wanted the children to spend the weekend with him, however, the wife was refusing to turn the children over to the husband.
MPO Vazquez informed both individuals to obtain legal counsel on this incident.
Domestic Dispute 15-004158 Holloway Court, NE April 25 7:10 p.m. A resident reported her intoxicated ex-husband was attempting to leave the residence with their son.
Officer Herrera responded and after speaking with the ex-husband he determined he was not impaired. The son left voluntarily with his father.
Burglary 15-004159 800 Block Desale Street, SW April 25 7:14 p.m. Officer Digan responded to the area after receiving a report that the doors to a vacant property had been left open. After arriving at the property he determined someone may have forced entry into the residence.
Officer Digan attempted to contact the owner of the residence. The owners did not return his calls.
Lost Property 15-004181 GameStop 203 Maple Avenue, SE April 26 11:45 a.m.
A citizen reported he lost his wallet while shopping at the GameStop.
Medical Case 15-004182 The Wolf Trap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West April 26 1:23 p.m. Officer Slebonick responded to the hotel after the wife of a guest reported her husband may have been in need of medical treatment.
After speaking with the husband it was determined he would be transported to an area hospital.
Civil Case 15-004189 300 Block Tapawingo Road, SW April 26 8:38 p.m. A resident reported he entered into an agreement with a contractor for work to be completed on his residence. After the work was completed the contractor was attempting to charge more than the originally agreed upon price.
Officer Digan informed both individuals this was a civil matter and suggested that written agreements may prevent these issues from occurring in the future.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 15-004194 Maple Avenue at Mashie Drive, SE April 26 11:18 p.m. Officer Herrera was on patrol when he observed the operator of a vehicle with defective equipment. As a result of the equipment defect he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the operator he detected the signs of possible impairment. The operator was provided an opportunity to perform field sobriety tests, however, he refused. Officer Herrera arrested the 46 year old man from Vienna for Driving While Intoxicated.
The man was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Felony Driving While Intoxicated (4th in 10 years) and Driving on Revoked (DWI Related).
Medical Case 15-004201 100 Block Patrick Street, SE April 27 8:10 a.m. An employee reported a student left the Cedar Lane School after becoming upset while speaking with a counselor. The employee was concerned the student may attempt to harm herself.
Sgt. Sheeran responded and after locating the student he transported her to an area hospital where she was evaluated and returned to the school.
The school will handle this case internally.
Found Property 15-004213 100 Block Locust Street, SW April 27 2:45 p.m. An unknown citizen approached Sgt. Sheeran and turned over a set of keys that had been found in the area.
The keys did not contain anything that could identify the owner.
Vandalism 15-004217 100 Block Patrick Street, SE April 27 3:30 p.m. A resident reported the rear window to his vehicle had been broken out. An iPod was located near the vehicle and was believed to be the object thrown, causing the damage.
Open Door 15-004218 300 Block Orchard Street, NW April 27 6:25 p.m. An unknown citizen reported the front door to a vacant residence appeared to be open.
PFCs Lyons and Kiley responded and determined the home was due to be razed. The door was secured prior to leaving.
Assist Fire/EMS 15-004257 Exxon Gas Station 395 Maple Avenue, East April 28 9:31 p.m.
PFC Lyons responded to the area after receiving a report of an unresponsive individual lying on the sidewalk. Upon arriving he determined the individual was extremely intoxicated. Due to his level of intoxication he was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Arrest – Drunk in Public 15-004265 McDonald’s 544 Maple Avenue, West April 29 3:03 a.m.
MPO Shaver responded to the McDonald’s to assist with an individual who appeared to be sleeping at one of the tables. After arriving he determined the individual was intoxicated and arrested the 36 year old man, with no fixed address, for Drunk in Public.
The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.
Suspicious Event 15-004273 The Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW April 29 8:52 a.m.
An employee reported he was alerted to a suspected drug transaction between students near an exit door of the school. The employee stated when he approached the students one of them fled the school and ran towards the Cedar Lane Shopping Center.
The employee located the student who fled a second time.
MPO Vazquez along with school employees located the student and was able to persuade him to return to the school.
The school will handle this incident internally.
Assist Fire/EMS 15-004276 500 Block Alma Street, SE April 29 9:40 a.m. MPO Shaw responded to the area to assist with an elderly resident whose son, her primary caregiver, had been taken to an area hospital after suffering a medical emergency.
Another family member was contacted and responded to the residence to care for the resident.
Suspicious Event 15-004291 Money and King Funeral Home 171 Maple Avenue, West April 29 3:56 p.m. An employee reported he received mail addressed to a “Lewis and Allen Locksmith Vienna, VA”. The address listed for the business was that of Money and King Funeral Home.
MPO Vazquez contacted an employee of the locksmith business who stated the business had several addresses, some of which she did not know. After holding for several minutes, while the employee attempted to locate the addresses, she hung up on MPO Vazquez.
Vandalism 15-004319 300 Block Jade Court, NW April 30 8:31 a.m. A resident reported a neighbor spray painted images to include a rainbow and a baseball diamond in the cul-de-sac.
Officer Slebonick responded and spoke with the neighbor suspected of painting the images. She stated it was spray chalk that was used to paint the images and could be easily removed.
Officer Slebonick attempted to wash the chalk with water but was unsuccessful. DPW was contacted to remove the images, however, they have not yet responded.
This case is being investigated.
