Vienna Police Investigating Use of Counterfeit $20 Bill at Drug Store
Here's a look at some of the incidents reported in this week's crime report from the local police.

VIENNA, VA — The town police are working to determine the origin of a counterfeit $20 bill that was used on Monday, March 6, by a customer at a local drug store.
At 3:23 p.m. on March 6, an employee at Rite Aid, 215 Maple Ave. W, reported that a customer was in the store, trying to pass the counterfeit bill.
Officers spoke to the customer, who told them that she received the bill as change while she was shopping in the area of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) in the Vienna area the previous day, and she was not aware of the fact that it was counterfeit.

The following are other incidents reported by police in their weekly report released Friday:
Animal Case – Quarantine 17-001908: 900 Block Cooper Court SE, 3 p.m. Feb. 22 ACO Barker received a notice from INOVA Urgent Care that they had treated a young child for a dog bite. The child was walking with his parent when a dog nipped at the boy playfully,
causing a minor injury on his back. The dog is current with all of its vaccinations. The owner was advised of the 10-day quarantine.
Assault 17-002030: 320 Maple Ave. E, March 3 12:20 p.m. The owner of the building reported a verbal disagreement he had with one of the tenants became physical when the tenant pushed him. The owner was advised of the warrant process should he wish to pursue charges.
Drunk In Public/Injured Person 17-002049: The Wolftrap Hotel, 430 Maple Ave. W, March 4 2:25 a.m. Officers responded to the report of an intoxicated man at the hotel. Officers found the man and observed he had suffered injuries to his hands. Rescue responded and transported the man to an area hospital for further treatment.
Vandalism 17-002074 and 17-002075: 300 Block Cabin Road SE, Between March 4 9:30 p.m. and March 5 10 p.m. Vehicles at two residences were egged.
Arrest – Solicitor 17-002081: Whole Foods Market, 143 Maple Ave. E, March 5 2:55 p.m. MPO Seitz observed the occupants of a blue van soliciting for mobile dent repair. The men did not have a Solicitor’s Permit to conduct business in town. MPO Seitz issued a summons for Soliciting Without a Permit to the 28-year-old man from Armor Court in Severn, Md. The man was released on his signature.
Arrest – Noise Violation 17-002088: The Bey Lounge, 303 Mill Street NE, March 5 11:30 p.m. A resident reported loud music coming from The Bey Lounge. When officers arrived, they could hear the noise.
MPO Shaw issued a summons charging Violation of the Town Noise Ordinance to an employee. The 31-year-old man from Dry River Court in Reston was released on his signature.
Fraud 17-002101: Rite Aid, 215 Maple Ave. W, March 6 3:23 p.m. An employee reported a customer was in the store trying to pass a counterfeit $20 bill. Officers spoke to the customer, who believes she received the bill as change while she was shopping in the
area of Leesburg Pike in Vienna the previous day, and she was not aware it was counterfeit. This case is being investigated.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 17-002125: Cedar Lane School, 101 Cedar Lane SW, March 7 10:58 a.m. Officers responded to the school for the report of an adult student in possession of marijuana. Ofc. Hylinski issued a summons charging Possession of Marijuana to the 18-year-old man from Rowan Court in Annandale. The man was released on his signature.
Police Service 17-002142: Navy Federal Credit Union, 820 Follin Lane SE, March 7 4:24 p.m. An employee requested assistance with an employee who was upset after receiving a poor work performance evaluation. The man calmed down after speaking to officers and agreed to leave work for the day.
Fraud 17-002160: Walgreens, 225 Maple Ave. E. Between March 7 at 10:40 p.m. and March 8 at 10:40 a.m. A citizen reported being the victim of fraud when her credit card number was used for a purchase
at Walgreens.
Drunk In Public 17-002165: 200 Block Cedar Lane SE, March 8 12:57 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a man who appeared to be extremely intoxicated and was sleeping on the sidewalk. Rescue personnel responded to the scene at the request of the officer
and transported the man to an area hospital for treatment.
Arrest – Drunk In Public 17-002177: Joes Place Pizza & Pasta, 435 Maple Ave. W, March 8 11:57 p.m. Sgt. Tracy observed two men acting suspicious in the area of the closed business. When he approached the men, he detected a strong odor of alcohol and they both appeared to be intoxicated. Sgt. Tracy arrested the two men and transported them to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where they were charged with Drunk In Public and were to be held until sober.
Suspicious Event 17-002187: 500 Block Creek Crossing Road NE, March 9 12 p.m. A resident was returning home when the vehicle in front of her pulled into her driveway. The resident questioned the unknown female driver as to why she was at her house. The resident felt
the woman was acting suspicious when she stated that she had the wrong address and quickly left the area.
Crash - Nutley Street and Maple Avenue SW 17-002082: March 5 4:41 p.m. A vehicle was traveling northbound on Nutley Street, attempting to turn right and go east on Maple Avenue. A second vehicle was directly behind the first vehicle. The first vehicle stopped for oncoming traffic. The driver of the second vehicle was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the first vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a summons charging Fail to Pay Full Time and Attention.
