Vienna Police Report: Tires Slashed, IRS Fraud, Obscene Text, Passenger Passes Out in Cab

The week in crime as reported by the Town of Vienna Police Department in their weekly report.

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from May 08, 2015 – May 14, 2015. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

INCIDENTS

Fraud 15-004688 200 Block McHenry Street, SE March 18 12:00 p.m. A resident reported that he and his wife attempted to file a joint Federal Tax Return. They were informed by an IRS Agent that a return had already been filed in their name and the refund had been deposited into a Green Dot Account.

This case is being investigated.

Civil Matter 15-004738 Suntrust Bank 515 Maple Avenue, East Between April 28 at 12:00 p.m. and April 29 12:00 p.m. A customer reported that a family member, with whom she has a shared safe deposit box, had taken an undetermined amount of money from the safe deposit box.

The customer was informed this was a civil matter as both she and the family member were authorized to access the safe deposit box.

Grand Larceny 15-004790 VA Integrative Health 410 Pine Street, SE Between May 01 at 9:00 a.m. and May 12 at 6:50 p.m. An employee reported a second employee had been terminated and has not yet returned several items, belonging to the business, that were in her possession at the time of her termination.

This case is being investigated.

Animal Case 15-004625 600 Block Ninovan Road, SE May 07 2:20 p.m. ACO Baker responded to the area after receiving a report of an individual possibly mistreating his dog. After arriving and speaking with the dog’s owner he determined the dog was not in harm and appeared to be healthy and happy.

ACO Barker informed the owner of alternative training methods and of the need to obtain a Town of Vienna Dog License.

Vandalism 15-004749 1300 Block Ross Drive, SW May 07 between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. A resident reported someone had defaced her “Obama” bumper sticker with a black marker. The sticker was located on the rear window of her vehicle which was parked at Yeonas Park.

Medical Case 15-004643 900 Block Country Club Drive, NE May 08 12:53 a.m. Officers responded to the area to assist Fairfax County Rescue personnel with a female who was being transported to an area hospital for medical treatment.

Petit Larceny 15-004689 500 Block Kingsley Road, SW Between May 08 at 6:00 p.m. and May 09 at 11:25 a.m. A resident reported the window to a neighbor’s vehicle had been smashed out.

Officer Herrera was able to obtain the contact information for the vehicle owner and informed him of the situation. When the owner returned home he contacted Officer Herrera and reported items had been taken from the center console.

This case is being investigated.

Burglary 15-004691 100 Block Tapawingo Road, SE May 09 between 9:30 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. A resident returned home and discovered someone had entered his home and had taken several items, to include jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash.

This case is being investigated.

Medical Case 15-004687 The Wolf Trap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West May 09 9:51 a.m.

Officer Herrera responded to the Wolf Trap Hotel to assist with a guest who was requesting to go to an area hospital for treatment.

Officer Herrera transported her to the hospital, as she was unsure she could safely drive.

Medical Case 15-004693 200 Block Courthouse Court, SW May 09 3:11 p.m. A resident contacted the Vienna Police Department to report he was unable to find his car keys. Officer Digan responded and spoke with the elderly resident’s wife who informed him her husband had been suffering from health issues and should not be driving.

Officer Digan suggested she take her husband to a doctor to have him evaluated to determine if he was healthy enough to drive a vehicle.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 15-004718 800 Block Maple Avenue, East May 10 1:31 a.m. Sgt. Sylmar was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic offense. As a result of that offense he conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 25 year old man from Vienna for Driving While Intoxicated.

The driver was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Arrest – Drunk in Public 15-004735 The Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW May 11 7:58 a.m.

A school employee reported a student arrived at school and appeared to be intoxicated.

Sgt. Reeves and PFC Lyons responded and after their interaction with the student they determined he was intoxicated. Sgt. Reeves arrested the 19 year old man from Herndon, Virginia for Drunk in Public.

The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.

Found Property 15-004737 East Street at Ayr Hill Avenue, NE May 11 8:47 a.m. An unknown citizen reported a bicycle had been abandoned on the sidewalk at East Street and Ayr Hill Avenue, NE.

The Mongoose brand mountain bike will be held at the Vienna Police Station until the owner can be identified.

Telephone Case 15-004746 500 Block Maple Avenue, West May 11 1:21 p.m. A citizen reported she had received disturbing text messages from an unknown number. After informing the sender she did not recognize his telephone number she received another text with what she felt was an obscene picture attached.

PFC Lyons responded and at his direction she replied to the sender advising him she had contacted the police. The sender apologized and stated he had sent the message to the wrong number.

Medical Case 15-004750 James Madison Drive at Chain Bridge Road, NW May 11 2:01 p.m. A Yellow Cab Company Taxi Driver reported he was transporting a fare to Vienna when the fair went unconscious. MPO Shaver and PFC Lyons responded and determined the individual had gone unconscious from what appeared to be extreme intoxication.

Due to his state of intoxication Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel were summoned and transported the individual to an area hospital for treatment.

Vandalism 15-004794 Chipotle 225 Maple Avenue, East May 12 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. A resident reported he and two friends were in the Chipotle parking lot when they were confronted by an individual who began yelling at them and using vulgar language. After the verbal altercation the three friends went into Chipotle to order food. As they were ordering they observed the individual slash the front and rear passenger side tires on their vehicle.

This case is being investigated.

Arrest – Unlawful Entry 15-004800 1000 Block Pickett Place, SW May 12 11:17 p.m. A resident reported an uninvited acquaintance entered her residence and had fallen asleep on her kitchen floor.

Officer Lyons responded and determined the individual was intoxicated. The 52 year old man from Fairfax, Virginia was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she attempted to obtain a warrant for Unlawful Entry. Due to his extreme level of intoxication, he was taken to an area hospital to be held until he was sober enough for discharge.

After medical personnel determined he was sober enough for discharge, he was again transported back to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Unlawful Entry and held on a $500.00 bond.

Suspicious Event 15-004826 100 Block East Street, NE May 13 2:07 p.m. A resident reported the window to her vehicle had been damaged. She stated the damage may have been caused by a rock being kicked up by a lawn service cutting grass in the area.
