Vienna Prepares For 2021 Town Council Election

VIENNA, VA — Three Vienna Town Council seats are up for grabs in 2021 as the May 4 election approaches. Town Council elections are held every year during the first Tuesday of May.

Four candidates are running for the three seats: David Patariu, Nisha Patel, Steve Potter and Howard Springsteen. Patel, Potter and Springsteen are incumbent members. Councilmembers are at-large representatives and serve two-year terms. Click on each link to read candidate statements.

In-person voting will be held Tuesday, May 4 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street SE, Vienna. Town of Vienna residents who are registered to vote in Virginia are eligible to vote in the election.

Voters can register to vote or update their voter registration online at www.elections.virginia.gov through 11:59 p.m. on April 12. In-person voter registration or updates can be done at the Fairfax County Office of Elections until 5 p.m. on April 12. For mailed registrations, applications are available at Town Hall. When returned, applications must be postmarked on or before April 12.

Early in-person voting is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from March 19 to April 29 at the Fairfax County Office of Elections, Fairfax County Government Center, Suite 323, 1200 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax. Early voting also will be available Saturday, April 24 and Saturday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Registered voters may also apply for an absentee ballot at www.elections.virginia.gov. Applications are also available at Town Hall and may be mailed, faxed, returned in person or emailed to the Fairfax County Office of Elections by 5 p.m. on April 23. All mailed ballots must be received in the Office of Elections by noon on Friday, May 7.

A virtual meet the candidate forum held by the North East Vienna Citizens Association and Vienna Business Association can be viewed on YouTube, or TVCN, (channel 27 on Cox and 38 on Verizon Fios) from April 12 to May 4 at 10 a.m. Mondays, 7 p.m. Thursdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays.
