Vienna seeks a win today

The Vienna Senior League All Stars will have another chance today to win a berth to the 2014 State Tournament, that will be played at Colonial Heights, after a defeat last night against Greater Fairfax 9-3, in the continuation of the 13 District Tournament at Waters Field.

Vienna jumped in front in the first inning with base on balls to Bruce Briglia and Danny Delgado, a ground ball out from Kalib Ashcraft that advanced the runners; hit by pitch to Robbie Harris and Nick Brunori and a rbi fielder choice from Patrick Abrahamsen.

Greater Fairfax responded with 2 in the first inning and 2 more in the second.

Vienna cut the lead in the third with a triple by Ashcraft and an rbi ground ball from Brunori, but couldn't score again. 

For Vienna, Bradley Cazenas was effective on the mound in the last 2 1/3 innings.

Offensively, Ashcraft was again the engine with 2 hits in 3 at bats, including his third triple and third double of the tournament; Briglia 1 for 2, with a run scored; and Nate Grisius 1 for 3, with a stolen base.

Vienna will play tonight, Friday, at 6;30 p.m. against the winner of the game between Northern Fairfax and Arlington, which was postponed last night due to bad weather. Northern Fairfax held the lead 6-3, in the 6th inning.

The championship games of the 13 District tournament are now scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. (if necessary), at Waters Field. All are welcome to support your team!
