From The Vienna Theatre Company: The Vienna Theatre Company’s production of Ripcord premieres at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Vienna Community Center with additional performances across the three following weekends through May 5. Tickets are $14 and may be purchased at viennava.gov/webtrac or in person at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street SE.

Ripcord centers on retirement home roommates who mix together about as well as oil and water. The pair get into Odd Couple-esque situations and must endure one another. In addition to the classical, in-your-face comedic moments, the play provides a layer of poignancy just below the surface.

“It is a very funny play,” says Director Jessie Roberts, “but it also has a more profound message beyond the jokes. These two women, who absolutely cannot stand one another, come to learn that, of course, you will hit some bumps in your life, but that you can't give up on it or your dreams because once you do, it’s all over. Even in their twilight years, these two women go through dynamic changes and still have a thing or two to learn.”
