Vienna Turkey Trot Returns To Support Madison Band, Volunteer Fire Department

Before enjoying your Thanksgiving feast, get your running shoes on to support two local causes for the Vienna Turkey Trot.

VIENNA, VA — Before Thanksgiving, one Vienna tradition is getting a workout to benefit two local cause. The 2022 Vienna Turkey Trot will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20 with proceeds supporting the James Madison High School "Pride of Vienna" Band and Vienna Volunteer Fire Department.

The Vienna Turkey Trot will include a 5K, 10K and Kids Fun Run starting at the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, 400 Center Street South. The Kids Fun Run will happen at 8 a.m. before the 5K and 10K begin at 8:30 a.m. Afterward, participants and spectators can enjoy music, prizes and refreshments at the Finish Line Festival.

The 5K and 10K course both start near the Volunteer Fire Department at 400 Center Street South. Runners and walkers will head down Center Street South, turn onto Moore Street, turn onto Desale Street, continue past Vienna Woods Swim & Tennis Club, turn onto Patrick Street, and head north on Cottage Street back to the Volunteer Fire Department. 10K runners and walkers will do another loop, while the 5K will end after that first loop.

Three awards will each be given for the male and female winners in various age groups: 0-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 and up.

Participants with strollers may join the race, but dogs are not permitted. The price to participate is $45 for the 5K, $50 for the 10K and $20 for the Kids Fun Run.

Register in advance for the Vienna Turkey Trot at www.viennaturkeytrot.org. For online registrations, packet pickup will be available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street SE; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Road Runner Sports, 1120 West Broad Street, Falls Church; and 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday at the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department (second floor), 400 Center Street. Registration will also be available from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the event.

For those who cannot participate, donations can be made directly to the James Madison High School Band, the repeat state champions in group 5 of the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative.
