Vienna Volunteer Fire Department Assists with West Springfield Fire

The Vienna VFD was among eight second-alarm assisting units to respond, providing a canteen truck for firefighters on the scene.

A house fire in West Springfield that Northern Virginia Fire Buffs (NVFB) handled Sunday night required assistance from the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department (VVFD) in the form of a canteen, according to both organizations’ Facebook accounts.

The fire was reported at 7707 Carleigh Drive in West Springfield at approximately 9:22 p.m. Sunday evening, according to NVFB, and VVFD’s Canteen 402 was one of eight second-alarm units to respond.

Canteens are often called to larger fires where firefighters are required on the scene for a long stretch of time. It provides authorities with vital food, water, coffee and other sources of nourishment and often plays a vital role in large firefighting efforts.

The fire in West Springfield was eventually controlled by NVFB and all assisting units.
