Vienna Will Have A Nativity Scene For Puppies

A local church came up with the idea. Because why not do a nativity scene with only dogs and puppies?

VIENNA, VA—Nativity scenes are quite common at Christian churches during the Christmas season, and one Vienna church is having fun with it this year.

Church of the Good Shepherd is hosting its second annual Live Puppy Nativity Saturday, Dec. 2. Yes, picture adorable puppies and dogs dressing up as shepherds and angels. What could be better?

The event is open to the community members and their dogs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The church will provide the costumes and take photos. If your dog needs convincing to put on a costume, there will be treats too.

The Rev. Eric Song started the new holiday tradition last Christmas in his first year as the church's pastor. He hopes the community will see “there are many creative ways to celebrate Christmas.”

“With Advent coming and Christmas right around the corner, we are hosting Vienna’s second annual ‘Live Puppy Nativity,’ inviting locals to bring their dogs and dress them up to be part of our nativity,” said Song. “We welcome all pets and other animals and their owners! We invite the community to join us in this fun event. It makes for great holiday pictures too!”

The church will also serve hot chocolate, and the church’s youth group will be on hand to accept donations for Second Story, a shelter and support program for young people. These donations will go toward Christmas gifts for the young people in its community.

The Church of the Good Shepherd is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and is located at 2351 Hunter Mill Road, Vienna.
