Vienna wins second game

Kalib Ashcraft delivered 4 hits, including two triples and one double to lead last night the Senior League Vienna All Stars to a 18-0 win over the Springfield All Stars, as the 13th District Tournament continues to unfold at the historic Waters Field, in Vienna.

Meanwhile, Patrick Evans, Chris Anzilotti and Alex Zeeve were brilliant on the mound and limited Springifeld to two hits.

Vienna set its mark in the first inning with a hit-by-pitch to Bruce Briglia, a triple by Ashcraft and a wild pitch.

In the second, Evans got a hit, went to second after a miscue, and after a wild pitch and a base on balls to Thomas Ale, scored with a ground out rbi produced by Bruce Briglia.

The game opened up in the 3rd with 7 runs, after another triple from Ashcraft, and rbi single from Robbie Harris, a ground ball from Nick Brunori, and rbi single from Nick Grisius, a ground ball from Patrick Abrahamsen advanced the runners; an infield hit rbi from Evans, a base on balls to Ale, a hit-by-pitch to Bruce Briglia, a base on balls to Danny Delgado and a hit from Ashcraft, followed by an error, allowed to empty the bases.

After throwing two zeros, allowing 2 hits and striking out 3, Evans was relieved by Anzilotti, who pitched two perfect innings including 4 consecutive strikeouts. 

Vienna scored 8 more in the bottom of the 5th, with an infield hit by Joe Halligan, a base on balls to Bradley Cazenas, two errors, an rbi hit from Nate Grisius which scored Phillip Davine, a 2 rbi hit from Brett Briglia, a sacrifice fly from Anzilotti, a hit from Sammy Criscitello, a base on balls to Halligan, an rbi hit from Cazenas and a long double that bounced over the fence from Ashcraft.

Zeeve closed the game in the 5th inning not before recovering from a hard line drive to his lower abdomen to get the second out. The game ended with a spectacular diving catch from Ashcraft in center field.

At the plate, Ashcraft was 4 for 5, with 2 3B, one 2B, 2 runs and 3 rbis; Evans 2 for 2, with a run scored and an rbi; Halligan 1-1, with 2 runs scored; Cazenas 1 for 1, with an rbi and a run scored; Harris 1 for 1, with a run scored and an rbi, and 2 hits by pitch; Nick Grisius 1 for 2, with an rbi and a run scored; Nate Grisius, 1 for 2, with an rbi and a run scored; Brett Briglia, 1 for 2, with a run scored and an rbi; Anzilotti 1 for 1, with an rbi and a sacrifice fly; and Criscitello 1 for 2, with a run scored.

Vienna will play tomorrow, Wednesday, at 5:00 p.m., against Greater Fairfax, that yesterday beat McLean-Great Falls 15-2. This game, at Waters Field, is the first semifinal of the 2014 13th District Senior League All Stars.  Two teams will play for survival at 8:00 p.m.. Tonight, Tuesday, Northern Fairfax will play against Springfield at 5:00 p.m. and Arlington versus McLean-Great Falls at 8:00 p.m.
