Vienna's Green Expo Seeks To Share Sustainable Living Tips

Ahead of Earth Day, local experts will share sustainable living practices, and families can enjoy seeing live birds of prey.

VIENNA, VA — If you're ready to try living more sustainably but don't know where to start, Vienna's Green Expo will help.

The Green Expo will be held Thursday, April 20 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street SE. At the event, local exhibitors will be on hand to share information about sustainable practices.

Family favorite activities at the event include live birds of prey like owls and hawks from nonprofit volunteer group Secret Garden Birds & Bees. Children’s activities are planned while adults learn about money-saving green practices. The event also includes a giveaway for a home energy audit, a composter, a rain barrel and reusable shopping bags.

New for the 2023 event will be "Ask Me Anything" sessions with local experts. The experts will make brief presentations and answer questions on sustainable practices.

Town of Vienna Urban Arborist Scott Diffenderfer will speak about how to plant a tree properly. Joanne Burke of Birch Street Financial Advisors and Meredith Haines, of Citizens' Climate Lobby who will discuss tax credits and rebates for homeowners who make solar and energy-efficient improvements. Mala Persaud, owner of Trace: The Zero Waste Store and Charlie Forbes from Fairfax County’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services will be on hand to discuss recycling properly.

The event is hosted by the Town of Vienna Conservation and Sustainability Commission.

The Green Expo leads into Earth Day weekend. Families can enjoy other Earth Day events around Fairfax County, including Earth Day Fairfax, Fairfax Veg Fest and HisTree Day in Fairfax City.
