Volunteers Come Together to Give Back to New Mothers in Need

#OperationSchoolBellClothing. Following Assistance League of Northern Virginia’s regular monthly meeting on March 18, our member volunteers gathered to participate in a Layette Workshop in support of our New Clothing for Kids program. New members and guests joined in and assembled 32 layette “bundles” which were delivered today to Inova Cares Clinic in Falls Church, VA for distribution to very low-income mothers of infants. The layettes were packaged with care and included hand-made baby afghans and hats as well as other essentials such as infant clothing, diapers, bibs and baby board books. We also included a brochure on newborn care, provided by the National Institute of Health, in each layette package.

We are grateful to the wonderful ladies at The Virginian Retirement Community in Fairfax for providing the majority of the hand-made items we used. Assistance League provides yarn to a team of lifelong knitters who, in turn, create beautiful afghans and hats for the newborns and infants in need. These dedicated women provide a genuine service to our organization and to the community. Additionally, the talented seniors feel a sense of belonging and self-worth when giving back to the most vulnerable members of the community.
