VYS Phoenix '99 Tie in Opener

VYS Phoenix '99 Come Back to Tie Opening Game of USYS Region I Championships

The Vienna Phoenix '99 U16 Girls soccer team had a slow start in their quest at the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships, when they tied Arundel Soccer Association Premier of Maryland, 3-3.  Despite early domination by Phoenix, ASA scored off a corner kick that deflected off an ASA player.  Later in the half, Anna Davis was substituted in and scored on her first touch, leveling the game 1-1.

ASA took the lead early in the second half on another deflected shot.  This was followed by great footwork in the box by Rachel Jackson, who sloughed the ball off to Tess Mahon-Kuzin for the finish, leveling the game 2-2.

VYS lost the lead again when ASA crashed the net, connecting on a loose ball.  With the game winding down, Phoenix pressed harder and harder.  With two minutes left, Rachel Jackson toed in the ball in to tie the game, 3-3.
