Welding in Attic Causes Fire at Vienna Home

Four occupants have been displaced, however, the occupants have declined Red Cross support. There were no injuries.

VIENNA, VA — Firefighters from Fairfax County responded to a house fire Friday at approximately 7:30 p.m., in the Vienna area of Fairfax County, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

The single-family home is located in the 2600 block of Oakton Glen Drive.

Firefighters encountered smoke coming from the attic and roof of the two-story home when they arrived on the scene, they said. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire in the attic.

Three occupants were home when the fire broke out and escaped unharmed, the department said. The occupants discovered smoke from a second-floor light fixture and called 911.

Four occupants have been displaced; however, the occupants have declined Red Cross support. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $25,000, the fire department said.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. Hot works operations, or welding in the attic, ignited insulation and caused the fire.
