Scholarship Fund of Alexandria Offers Free College Financial Aid Assistance

Got someone at home heading to college next year? Be sure to take advantage of financial aid that’s out there. Here’s information on a free financial aid workshop coming up, courtesy of the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria.

Need help applying for financial aid to pay for college? If so, the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria invites you to a FAFSA Completion Workshop at T.C. Williams High School, 3330 King St., Alexandria, on Saturday, Jan. 31. Drop by anytime between 9 a.m. and noon to receive free, confidential assistance from financial aid professionals as well as free coffee and breakfast.

Every senior should fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), a free application to qualify for money from the federal government, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and colleges. Filling out the FAFSA takes less than 30 minutes, and Federal Financial Aid money is awarded first come, first served, so don’t wait to fill out your FAFSA!

The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria’s FAFSA Completion Workshop will give you the resources you need to see college as an affordable, attainable goal. This event is free and open to the public, including returning college students and older adults interested in furthering their education.

Please bring the following documents you will need to complete the FAFSA:

  • Social Security Numbers for you and your parents
    • Your alien registration or permanent resident card (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
  • Dates of birth, email address, and mailing address for you & your parents
  • Your parent’s marital status & date of that status
  • Date you and your parents became state residents
  • 2014 W-2 Forms and 1040 Income Tax Returns for parents and student (if applicable)
    • If 2014 records are not available, you can bring 2013 and recent pay-stubs to estimate 2014 income
  • 2014 untaxed income records – Veterans non-education benefit records, child support received, disability, or worker’s compensation
  • Family’s current bank statements, business and investment records
