• Red Onion State Prison abuse lawsuit settled (valawyersweekly.com) — Inmates held in solitary confinement at Wallens Ridge State Prison in Big Stone Gap and Red Onion State Prison have reached a proposed settlement in their long-running class action lawsuit, canceling a trial that was set to begin October 5. The case, led by the ACLU of Virginia, challenged Virginia’s use of long-term solitary confinement and its Step-Down Program, alleging serious physical and mental harm to prisoners.
