A man is accused of striking a woman with a bag of bottles in a Woodbridge parking lot, according to Prince William County Police.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — An argument in a parking led to a woman being struck with a bag of bottles and knocked out, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Jairo Christian Martinez of Harrisonburg is charged with malicious wounding.

On Sunday evening, police received a report of an assault in the 13900 block of Jefferson Davis Highway in Woodbridge. There, they found a 28-year-old woman suffering from injuries, according to a report from the Prince William County Police Department.

The victim told police that while she was at a parking lot, she argued with an acquaintance, identified as Martinez. The argument became physical, authorities said.

Martinez was accused of grabbing the victim's hair and striking her with a bag containing multiple bottles, according to a release from the police department. The victim fell down and lost consciousness after she was hit.

A witness confronted Martinez and checked on the victim, police said. The witness also contacted police and requested assistance.

Martinez fled the scene before police arrived, according to law enforcement. The victim regained consciousness and was taken to a nearby hospital. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.

After an investigation, police said they received warrants for Martinez's arrest. The City of Harrisonburg Police Department took Martinez into custody on Thursday, March 10.

Martinez is charged with malicious wounding. His court date is pending, and he is awaiting transportation back to Prince William County.
