Man Wielding Knife Shot By Prince William County Police

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 54-year-old man was shot early Thursday morning after he approached officers with a knife while they responded to a domestic call at his home, according to police. The shooting happened at a residence in the 4300 block of Flodden Court in Woodbridge.

According to Prince William County Police, a woman made an emergency call to police, saying that she and her husband were having an argument and that her husband was armed with a screwdriver. Police arrived at their home at 6:12 a.m. and found the caller on the front lawn. She told police her husband was inside, armed with a BB gun and a knife.

While speaking to the woman, her husband approached the front door, police said. Officers issued commands to him before he exited the home and came toward the officers with the knife. The two responding officers then shot their firearms towards the suspect.

According to police, the man was struck in his upper body. Officers rendered aid to him until fire and rescue personnel arrived at the home. The suspect was then transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The involved officers will be placed on standard paid leave pending a full criminal and administrative investigation, police said. No officers were injured during the incident.
