At about 2:30 a.m. Friday, a Prince William police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving in the area of Wayside Drive and Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1) in Dumfries, the police report said. The vehicle failed to stop and continued northbound on Route 1.

When it reached the area of Route 1 and Featherstone Road in Woodbridge, police officers deflated one of its tires using a Stinger device, the report said. Despite this, the vehicle kept moving north, then left Route 1 and eventually stopped in the area of Riggs Court off of Mount Pleasant Drive.

Once stopped, the driver and passenger fled on foot, police said. More officers responded and set up a perimeter in the neighborhood while two officers with police dogs (K-9 units) searched for the suspects.

While investigating the scene, officers determined that the vehicle was reported stolen in Stafford County, the report said. After an extensive search, the K-9 officers found a man hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 14400 block of Melbourne Avenue.

This suspect was identified as Caston, who was determined to be the driver of the vehicle, police said. The passenger, identified as Stewart, was located by officers walking in the area of Mount Pleasant Drive and Bayside Avenue. Both were arrested at the scene.
