Police ID Man Hit, Killed By Train In Woodbridge

The 66-year-old Woodbridge man was walking on the tracks near Veterans Park on Aug. 12 when he was fatally struck by a train.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — Prince William County police this week identified a 66-year-old man as the pedestrian who died last month after he was hit by a train in Woodbridge.

According to police, Jay Douglas Alvey of Woodbridge died Aug. 12 when he was hit by a train at the Featherstone Road railroad crossing near Veterans Memorial Park in Woodbridge. Authorities previously said Alvey was walking on the tracks as the train approached.

"The train engineer sounded the train horn to warn the pedestrian, who continued to walk within the tracks before being struck by the train," the police department said.

According to police, information obtained by investigators indicated Alvey was intentionally walking on the tracks and made no attempts to move as the train approached.

As a result, police said investigators ruled the death a possible suicide.

Alvey was identified through familial DNA, police said.

No injuries were reported by anyone on the passenger train, according to the police department.
