Police: Motorcyclist Killed in Accident on Route 1
Police closed commuter route in both directions during Monday morning's rush hour, say media reports.

A motorcyclist from King George County died early Monday when he was hit by a car on Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway), according to the Prince William County police.
The police closed Route 1 in both directions to investigate the accident, disrupting the morning’s rush hour, according to media reports.

Dustin Eugene Schexnayder, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 1 near Russell Road in Triangle, the police said.
The motorcyclist was riding south on Route 1 when his motorcycle left the road and hit a guardrail, the police said. He fell off the motorcycle and landed in the middle of the roadway, and a 2013 Honda Accord struck him.

The driver, a 47-year-old Fredericksburg man, remained at the scene, the police said. They are continuing to investigate the accident, saying that it’s unknown whether speed and alcohol were factors or if the victim was wearing a helmet.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 1 between Russell Road and Corporate Drive in Stafford County reopened to traffic at about 9 a.m. after being closed for more than six hours, as police investigated the accident, WJLA-TV Channel 7 reported. Traffic was detoured to Interstate 95.
Initially, police believed that the accident victim had been a pedestrian. But at sunrise, they found his motorcycle, a damaged 2007 Hyosung GT650, in nearby woods.
