The incident at Lake Ridge Middle School on Monday concerned staff members who believed the boy was carrying a weapon.

Police say a teen was carrying a pellet gun Monday on the campus at Lake Ridge Middle School. Staff who saw the boy contacted police over fears that he was carrying a weapon.
Officers responded to the school at 2:41 p.m. Monday. The teen, a Woodbridge High School student, had been detained by middle school staff.
During a fire drill, staff observed the boy coming out of the woods carrying the pellet gun, which they believed to be a weapon. Police note the pellet gun was never pointed at the school, staff or students.

According to police, the incident appears linked to a police call to the school Sunday night after a report of boys shooting a pellet gun on the school’s track.
“As police were responding to the incident, the student fled into the wooded area where he reportedly left the pellet gun,” according to police spokesperson Officer Jonathan Perok. “The student then went to retrieve the gun the next day where he was seen by the school’s staff during the fire drill.”

The case has been turned over to the Juvenile Court System for review and further action, according to Perok.
