Prince William ZIP Code Has Most Coronavirus Cases In Virginia

A ZIP code in the Woodbridge area of Prince William is home to the most people in Virginia who have tested positive for the coronavirus.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A ZIP code for a part of Prince William County that stretches from Woodbridge south into Rippon Landing is home to the most people who have tested positive for the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, in Virginia, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

On Friday, the VDH started providing coronavirus data by ZIP code. In Prince William County, the 22191 ZIP code has reported the most number of positive cases, at 554. Health officials reported Friday that 1,897 people in the ZIP code have been tested for the coronavirus, giving the ZIP code a 29-percent positive test rate.

The ZIP code has a population of about 58,000 people.

Prince William and Fairfax Counties each has four ZIP codes in the top 10 ZIP codes in the state with the most positive cases. Arlington County and Harrisonburg also have ZIP codes with positive case counts that put them in the top 10 for the state.

The 22193 ZIP code, which includes the Dale City and Montclair areas, along with parts of Woodbridge, has the second-most number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Virginia, with 491. The ZIP code has a population of about 73,000.

In the ZIP code, 1,762 people have tested for the coronavirus, giving the ZIP code a 28-percent positive rate.

As of Friday, Prince William County health officials reported 2,474 positive cases of the coronavirus, the second most of any county in Virginia. Fairfax County, the largest county in the state, has reported the most number of positive cases, with 5,338.

As the two most populous counties in the state, it's not surprising that Fairfax and Prince William counties would have the most positive cases of the coronavirus.

The ZIP code with the third-highest number of positive cases in Prince William County and the second-highest rate of positive tests is 20110, which includes the City of Manassas and parts of Prince William County. Of the 1,050 people tested in the 20110 ZIP code, 405, or 39 percent, have tested positive for the coronavirus. The ZIP code ranks fifth in the state in terms of the most number of positive cases.

The 20109 ZIP code, which includes parts of Bristow and the communities of Bull Run and Ashton Glen, has the fourth-highest number of positive coronavirus cases in Prince William County but the highest rate of positive tests in the county. Of the 938 people tested in the 20109 ZIP code, 387 people, or 41 percent, have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the Virginia Department of Health. The ZIP code ranks seventh in the state in terms of the number of positive cases.

The ZIP code information includes case numbers and number tested but not deaths or hospitalizations. Residents can look at data by ZIP code, locality and health district.

The health department says there are a few caveats to the ZIP code data. Locality data is being reported to the state for all cases, but ZIP code information is not reported for 432 of the total 22,342 cases.

Out-of-state residents tested in Virginia are not counted in ZIP code data but are reflected in the state's overall testing data. For privacy reasons, ZIP codes with case counts between one and four cases are listed as "suppressed."
