Robber Who Shot Woodbridge Casino Winner Convicted: Prosecutors
A jury convicted a man who was accused of following a Woodbridge resident around a casino before following them home and shooting them.
WOODBRIDGE, VA — A jury convicted a man who was accused of shooting and robbing a Woodbridge resident in December 2019. Authorities claimed the suspect followed the victim home from the MGM National Harbor Casino in Maryland.
The 33-year-old victim suffered life-threatening injuries in the shooting, but he survived, prosecutors said. Another victim was held at gunpoint, but he was not shot.
Authorities identified the suspect as Daquan Artis Tinker. Tinker was convicted of attempted aggravated murder, aggravated malicious wounding, two robbery charges, and four use of a firearm in the commission of a felony charges.

Based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines, Tinker could spend the rest of his life in prison. Tinker's sentencing is scheduled for July 7.
On Dec. 18, 2019, the victim won "a significant amount of money," at the MGM casino, according to the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney. Video surveillance from the casino showed the suspects following the victims around the casino. The suspects followed the victims into the parking garage and to their home in Woodbridge, authorities said.

When the victims parked at their home, the suspects parked behind them in the driveway, investigators said. The suspects, including Tinker, shot one victim and took money and his cell phone. The other victim was held down and robbed at gunpoint.
The suspects then left the area in an SUV before police officers arrived.
"The perpetrator went to great lengths to bring violence to this community by following the victims around the casino in Maryland and then following them as they drove home to Woodbridge," Commonwealth's Attorney Amy Ashworth said. "My Office went to great lengths to hold Mr. Tinker accountable for the crimes he committed."
Tinker was arrested in March 2020 after an investigation that included officials from the FBI, Fairfax County Police Department, and the Prince William County Police Department.
With a casino expansion planned for Dumfries, Ashworth urged residents to be cautious when leaving with their winnings.
"With the upcoming expansion of the casino in Dumfries, people need to be aware of their surroundings when leaving any establishment with large sums of cash," Ashworth said. "Ask for an escort, utilize the casino’s wiring capabilities to wire the funds directly to your bank account, and drive to the police station if you believe you’re being followed. Be safe."
