Second Drowning In July Reported At Leesylvania State Park

The death of a 39-year-old Woodbridge man is the second drowning at Leesylvania State Park in July, according to county police.

WOODBRIDGE, VA — A 39-year-old man died at the hospital after getting pulled from a pond at Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge Monday evening, according to the Prince William County Police Department. The man's death is the second drowning at the state park this month.

At around 7:15 p.m. Monday, Prince William County police officers went to Leesylvania State Park to assist Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation rangers with a possible drowning. The investigation revealed that a man was located by an acquaintance in a pond. He was not breathing. The acquaintance and a ranger attempted CPR on the man until rescue personnel arrived on the scene.

The man, identified as Jason Thompson of Woodbridge, was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. His body was transported to the medical examiner’s office where an autopsy was conducted. No foul play is suspected in his death at this time, the police department said.

On July 4, the body of a Herndon man was recovered from an area of the Potomac River at Leesylvania State Park. Nasir Ahmad Malukazai, 32, was reported missing July 3. His body was recovered in the water around 10 a.m. July 4 by members of the Prince William County Police Underwater Search and Rescue Team. No foul play is suspected in Malukazai's death, the police said.
