Traffic Delays Return to I-95 for Months-Long Emergency Repairs

Your next headache: Lanes will be shifting until December, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

A new round of traffic delays are expected as the Virginia Department of Transportation begins shifting all southbound lanes to the left on a half-mile stretch of I-95 in Prince William County.

The work involves emergency groundwater seepage repairs from just south of the truck scales to Exit 152 at Route 234. If not repaired immediately, the water seepage will be a safety issue during the winter.

The lane shift will be in place for approximately two and a half months while VDOT installs a drainage system to drain groundwater seeping from springs underneath the pavement, according to a release.

Lane closures will begin on I-95 South Wednesday night, October 21, as crews begin installing barriers and implementing the lane shift. All work is weather dependent.

The Department is anticipating completing this emergency repair before the end of this year and eliminates any possibility of ensuing freezing as well as elevates any potential safety issue.
