Victim Identified, Pot Deal Led To Dumfries Shooting: Police

Prince William County police arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a 19-year-old from Woodbridge.

DUMFRIES, VA — Prince William County police on Wednesday identified the victim in a fatal shooting that happened in Dumfries Sept. 16. Police also announced they arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting, according to a release.

Edward Kusi-Johnson, 18, of Woodbridge, was arrested and charged with murder for the death of Devonte Lee Ivy, 19, also of Woodbridge. Police said the shooting was a result of a verbal argument between Kusi-Johnson and Ivy during a marijuana purchase and exchange. Following the shooting, Kusi-Johnson fled the scene.

At 9:47 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the shooting in the 16900 block of Porters Inn Drive, according to an earlier police report. When they arrived, they found Ivy suffering from gunshot wounds. The officers and emergency personnel provided first aid, but he was pronounced dead on scene.

A police K-9 team and a Fairfax County police helicopter searched the area for the shooter, but he was not located, the police said. Following an investigation, Kusi-Johnson was identified as the suspect and arrested at his home in Woodbridge.

Kusi-Johnson also is facing a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
