Viewfinder: An Afternoon with the O.W.L. Volunteer Fire Department

This week's Viewfinder presents a gallery of photos taken at Station 14 of the O.W.L. Fire Department.

On Sept. 4, I spent an hour and a half taking photographs of the men and women working at Station 14 of the Occoquan Woodbridge Lorton (O.W.L.) Volunteer Fire Department.

Trained firefighting volunteers typically work once every six days for 12-hour shifts starting at 6 p.m., relieving career firefighters, while working longer hours on the weekend. Their dedication and commitment to our community demonstrates exceptional integrity and courage.

As the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy approaches, I invite you to look at these photographs honoring our local heroes.  I also encourage Patch readers to send notes of support and gratitude to the Station 14 crew at this particular time.

After spending an afternoon in their company, I am truly grateful for their service.  Particular thanks to Chief Jim McAllister and Public Relations Specialist Rebecca Barnes for making this photo shoot one of the easiest I've had to do.

For your incredible work, many thanks to the volunteer and career firefighters of Station 14!
