Woodbridge Man in Jail for Shovel Attack

Unprovoked, he struck a Manassas man, say Prince William County police.

A Woodbridge man is behind bars after allegedly hitting another man in the head with a shovel on Saturday evening while he was working on his vehicle.

Manuel Jesus Hernanded, 42, of 4196 Merchant Plaza in Woodbridge, has been charged with malicious wounding, according to the Prince William County police. He’s being held without bond in the Prince William-Manassas regional jail, and his next date in court is July 6.

The police said they responded at 7:50 p.m. Saturday to the scene of the attack, in the 10200 block of Wallowood Drive in Manassas.

The victim, a 36-year-old Manassas man, told police that he was working on his vehicle when Hernandez, an acquaintance, approached him from behind and struck him in the head with a hard object. The accused struck the victim two more times with the object, which was later determined to be a shovel, police said.

Other witnesses to the incident intervened to separate the two parties. The police said the assault was unprovoked.

The victim was treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and Hernandez was arrested without further incident.
