SNOQUALMIE PASS — Thanks to the latest round of wintry weather, Snoqualmie Pass has already set a new early-season snowfall record, racking up nearly three feet of snow between Oct. 26 and Monday. Only one other year has come close over the same timeframe, with 32 inches recorded in 2005.

The early boost could be a promising sign for another healthy snowpack, and seasonal forecasts favor another cool and wet winter in Washington amid a rare third consecutive La Niña. Skiers and snowboarders are hopeful for a jumpstart on the winter recreation season, and the Summit at Snoqualmie reported nearly a foot of snow from the latest storm by Sunday afternoon.

Wintry conditions have also led to hazards on the road. Multiple spinouts and crashes again closed the pass in both directions Saturday afternoon. The Washington State Department of Transportation urges drivers to check conditions before they hit the road and to make sure their vehicle is equipped for the trip.
