Necklace Snatching In Bellevue Similar To Other Recent Crimes

Redmond police have put out a warning after a woman was assaulted and robbed of her necklace.

BELLEVUE, WA - Bellevue police are reporting that a woman recently had a necklace ripped off her neck while walking in the city. The crime is similar to ones that happened last fall - and more recently in Redmond.

The Bellevue incident happened May 7 near the intersection of 148th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 40th Street, across from the Nintendo and Microsoft office parks. The woman was walking down the sidewalk at about 3:30 p.m. when a man approached and pulled her necklace off.

The necklace-snatcher ran west through the Timberwood apartment complex, but police did not locate him.

A similar incident happened last Thursday, just a few blocks from where the scene of the Bellevue chain-snatching.

The victim told police she was talking on her cell phone at about 4:15 p.m. at the bus stop in the 4800 block of 156th Ave NE. The suspect walked up to her, slapped her phone out of her hand, and kicked her when she attempted to pick up the phone.
The suspect then grabbed her gold necklace, yanked it from her neck, and ran off toward nearby apartments.
The victim chased the suspect for a short time before he brandished a knife and fled the area on foot. Police were not notified of the incident until the following day so an immediate search of the area was not possible.
