📰 News we're reading

1. 279-Unit Apartment Building Proposed at Bellevue Office Campus Near East Main Station (downtownbellevue.com) — A new eight-story, 279-unit apartment building is proposed for the Gateway One office campus at 11400 SE 8th Street in West Bellevue, about a half-mile from East Main light rail. Plans call for 89 affordable units, reconfigured parking, and construction starting in 2027, joining several large residential and office projects rapidly reshaping the 112th Avenue and East Main Station corridor.

2. Iconic Bellevue, WA destination is up for sale after 80 years (fox13seattle.com) — Bellevue's signature mixed-use hub, The Bellevue Collection—including Bellevue Square and Lincoln Square—may be sold after 80 years of family ownership, though operations and events like Snowflake Lane will continue through 2026. Kemper Development says it's beginning a broker-led sale exploration with no set timeline, emphasizing the complex's economic and community impact on Bellevue and the broader Eastside.

3. TikTok Cuts 75 More Jobs at Its Bellevue Office for the Second Straight Year (startupfortune.com) — TikTok is cutting 75 more jobs at its Bellevue office in Lincoln Square North, marking the second straight year of layoffs at the company's local e-commerce hub. The Oct. 19 cuts hit TikTok Shop and technical roles, tying Bellevue's tech workforce to broader restructuring after TikTok's new U.S. ownership deal and nationwide cost-cutting moves.

4. Five men indicted in nationwide money laundering scheme (bellevuereporter.com) — Two Bellevue residents are among five men federally indicted in a nationwide money laundering scheme that allegedly moved more than $7.4 million from at least 77 victims. Prosecutors say the group funneled fraud proceeds through shell companies and dozens of bank accounts to China and Hong Kong, with a trial set for November and all defendants presumed innocent.

5. Crime and Justice Research Center Advisory Committee (seattleu.edu) — Bellevue residents should know their police department sits on Seattle University's Crime and Justice Research Center advisory committee alongside more than 50 regional, state, federal and private agencies. The group provides input on criminal justice research and education, connecting Bellevue law enforcement with a broad network that includes prosecutors, public defenders, treatment providers and major local employers.
