1. Fall 2026 Service Change: Pierce County and South King County (seattletransitblog.com) — Bus riders in Federal Way will see major changes starting August 29 as Route 574 is cut back to Federal Way Downtown Station and runs every 15 minutes. Several Metro routes serving Auburn–Federal Way are getting added trips, new DART routes, and a Metro Flex pilot zone centered on Downtown Station, reshaping how locals connect across South King and Pierce counties. 
2. Sound Transit 1-Line replaced by shuttle buses this week in the south end (mynorthwest.com) — Late-night Link light rail service to and from Federal Way will be limited midweek as Sound Transit replaces 1-Line trains with shuttle buses between Rainier Beach and Angle Lake after 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Riders heading between Lynnwood and Federal Way should plan around earlier last-train times and 10–15 minute shuttle bus intervals serving key south-end stations.
3. Federal Way watercolor festival helps build community (federalwaymirror.com) — Families just spent Saturday creating watercolor art together at the Federal Way Performing Arts Center, part of the venue's free "Arts of Connection" series funded by Arts Foundation Federal Way. Hundreds of residents joined in mural painting, water play, and face painting, all aimed at opening the center to the broader community and encouraging creative expression.
4. $10M bail for man accused of shooting dead Pierce Co. teen, fleeing to Mexico (thenewstribune.com) — Investigators in a Pierce County teen's killing tracked the suspect vehicle to Federal Way in late May, one step in a months-long case that ended with an arrest in Mexico. A 21-year-old man now faces multiple murder charges and $10 million bail, while co-defendants arrested elsewhere in Washington await their own court proceedings.
