Here are Pierce Co. food scores for Aug. 17 (thenewstribune.com) — Pierce County health inspectors recently cited several eateries, including the Taqueria El Guero food truck on Purdy Drive in Gig Harbor, for serious food-safety violations that triggered required re-inspections. Inspectors detailed problems with cooling, storage temperatures, and raw meat handling, but also noted on-the-spot corrections and discarded unsafe foods, giving residents a clearer picture of how local spots are performing.
• Here are the contenders to replace outgoing lawmakers in WA's Legislature • Washington State Standard (washingtonstatestandard.com) — One of the most locally relevant races this year is the open 26th District House seat, where longtime Rep. Michelle Valdez of Gig Harbor is stepping down after six terms. A Republican nonprofit leader and a Democrat who works with children with developmental needs are vying to replace her in this purple district, potentially shifting Gig Harbor's influence in Olympia.
