• City of Gig Harbor PL-ZONE-25-0004 IDX1035358 (tacomadailyindex.com) — The City of Gig Harbor has issued a Determination of Nonsignificance for its Phase 2A Development Code Update, revising rules for missing middle and multifamily housing citywide. Residents can comment at a Planning Commission hearing on August 27 or submit written feedback by August 26, with SEPA appeals due September 1. 
• Gig Harbor hires new athletic director (gigharbornow.org) — Gig Harbor High School has hired Erick Counts, an experienced former coach and teacher, as its new athletic director, starting August 3. He'll oversee Tides athletics while teaching two classes, aiming to strengthen academics-athletics connections and rebuild relationships after recent turmoil in the girls basketball program.
• Tacoma City Council to Join Regional Effort to Reduce Homelessness (mynorthwest.com) — Gig Harbor is one of several Pierce County cities already backing a new Unified Regional Approach to tackle homelessness, and Tacoma's City Council will vote August 25 on whether to formally join. The plan aims to coordinate funding, shelter capacity, and services countywide, recognizing Tacoma currently hosts most shelter beds while homelessness affects communities across the region, including Gig Harbor.
